Weird.
So many reviews go and commenters here: amazing, GOAT, absolute cinema...

What did I miss? Enjoyed the first part: the slow burn of seeing Denji get hopeful, knowing full well what's coming. Quite enjoyed this part, tbh.
But my expectations for the second half were betrayed. Some more trippy parts, like right after the kiss scene or the fight inside a flying skyscraper looked lit. But the rest — not so much.

I was expecting full-on sakuga non-stop, but the action was too... cutty? Hard to follow what's going on the screen. Ye, there's mad action going on, but I still feel like they could've executed it with better flow, especially given that it's been how many years since S1. And Im pretty sure I've seen a few short cuts where the animators just zoomed into a bigger scene, leading to a noticeable loss of detail.

The new art direction looks jarring, misplaced: S1's cinematic artstyle would've been way more fitting for a big screen release.

But ok, even if I shut up about the new artstyle the issue with jumpy, crude, jagged action felt very real to me. Anyone else feel the same or am I just nitpicking?

On a minor note, had to recheck vol6 after being weirded out by how Reze's tits grow two sizes in demon form. But seems like it's on Fujimoto. He couldn't choose between flat and big tits on bomb demon in manga himself, sometimes drawing both versions on side-by-side panels (ch47).

Animation is dope af - i'd like to have One Punch Man this quality of animation Y__Y Story is OK, Reze is hot and ending was nice
Just some minor/medium things to critisize as the end of the fight in the sea (that was plot armor vibes)

Where to start.. a lot to say, I’m incredibly moved. I’ll preface by saying I’m not a CSM fan and hated on season 1 pretty hard for being overhyped, but man this was one of the best animated films of all time. Enough to get me to wanna read and know more about the world. Even if the story wasn’t the best thing ever, you can’t deny the visual spectacle and feast for the eyes this was. The final third may be the best action sequence in anime history. Reze and Denji relationship was short, bittersweet and poignant and I loved every moment of it.

Me and the bad bitch I pulled by throwing up a flower 😭 the way my theater collectively laughed so hard when Denji pulled out the flower and Reze took it like it was nbd. Should’ve known she was absolutely insane at that point, but Ueda Reina’s voice just has this mystical quality about it that pulls you in and creates a false sense of security. You almost wanna get lost in the whirlwind romance like Denji.

It’s sad though because, yea, Denji is thinking with his dick and clearly being set up, but bro has been through so much in his life that a pretty girl just making him feel special and like he’s the most important person for once in his life is all he needed to throw everything away. I don’t really see that as a character flaw or “dumb” because he has legit never had true happiness or a normal life. Reze is pretty much the same on the other side which is why she goes back at the end.. and well.. we know how that went. But for both of them, this was like the best time of their lives.

Other than the big fight at the end, the school scene, particularly the pool scene, was my fave part of the film. The way they intercut the spider trapping the moth and consuming it in its web with Denji jumping into the pool and fully falling for Reze was so cool. I love cinematic moments like that sm.

Getting your tongue bitten off and that still not shaking your love for someone is crazy 😭 that entire reveal scene of Reze as the bomb devil was insane, taking out the entire 2nd division with no hesitation?? I feel bad for Aki losing his friend and then that vice captain, but that really set the tone for how OP Reze is. Oh to be stepped on by Reze like those civilians..

Even though it’s Reze and Denji’s story, I like how they managed to give Aki and Angel’s relationship some nice development too. Yaoi fanfics WHEN?? That hug was so cute!!

Big fight was just ridiculous man, every scene topped the last. We thought that JJK Shibuya fight was the best MAPPA had done and they did one 3x longer here lmao. Just ridiculous.

“I’ve never been to school either” man… as soon as Reze got an opportunity to be free and live a somewhat normal life she dies. So cruel, yea she killed a ton of people but she was also essentially raised in the anime equivalent of Marvel’s red room as a black widow. She was trained to be a weapon and for once in her life she was able to feel a little happiness.. and then it’s taken from her before she even get back to the cafe with Denji. Fuck Makima grooming ass. Actually nvm lemme retract that because some of y’all will get turned on by that statement lmao. I gotta read ahead tho to find out what exactly Makima is because even Reze knew about and was scared of her.

The fact Denji kept waiting for Reze at the cafe with flowers too, man fuck .. I would run away with her as well ngl. I could’ve fixed her. She did deserve better, but she’d also done some awful things so it’s one of them situations where she had to die, but fuck it hurts sm. 🥹

This was a fucking perfect adaptation! Reze was so mesmerizing. Her whole character was done perfectly. It sucks we dont get more of her in the series.

Chainsaw man fans are eating so fucking good. No really fan should be complaining about this movie. All the haters of S1 got their wish. Props to Mappa. Even though I loved s1. This version felt way more personal and close to Fujimotos original work. which I really appreciate!

From the reviews, the movie may have just overturned the Japan backlash of S1, which is great news for MAPPA. They did seem to have understood the criticisms, and took it to heart to make a great movie.

Better news though: now we most likely 100% going to get S2, because it did really all depend on Japan’s reaction on the movie. Looking forward to watch this when it releases in my country.

Bro, if any fan complains about this adaptation they are nuts. It was perfect. Reze couldnt of been done any better. I can still hear her voice in my head. You will love it. We are feasting with this adaptation my brother!!

im so split i dont even know. Going in I was really disappointing with the character design changes it looks just way flatter and more simplified. the direction is mostly the same but theres a slight difference in the tone that is just off. But seeing it I just had a hard time accepting it. People are deluding themselves if they dont point out the CG cars in this movie. They sure made room for that. I dont mind but it did stick out. This movie didnt do as good a job of blending the animation elements together except for the action when they went into full over drive. I really was looking forward to this I loved the movie. I just cant help but wonder what like reze would look like with the season 1 animation designs. She was so much more bubbly. Otherwise it felt like a 1:1 adaptation which breaks what was so cool and inspired about Season 1 which elevated the manga to TV. Im pretty sure I'm in the minority here given the score/reception but thats what I really think and that my criticisms are coming from a place of high expectations and love of the manga

Complaints out of the way, there were some funny moments I wasnt expecting that got me. I liked alot of the performances and the structure is pure roller-coaster. fujimoto pacing Every explosion is loud and big its something you have to see on the biggest screen possible. Im glad I got to see this in Imax. It was interesting there were no flashbacks. This movie has some of the best explosions in like any show or anything I think they put so much into it they had so much more than that one trailer sequence where the bomb devil is blowing up structure and skeleton of that glass skyscraper and you can see the fire through the glass. Its really impressive stuff.

This movie was so freaking awesome, I loved seeing Denji and Makima's movie marathon date while watching it on the big screen. It was literal movie-ception. The way Reze slowly got Denji to fall for her was quite mesmerizing for me to watch as well. It's a shame that zombie fight from season 1 had Power out of focus for most of this storyline, but Beam made a big splash as Denji's partner for the film. That order to keep him hidden came in clutch, and he made swimming in the ground look cool!

The first half was a nice romantic coming of age arc, but after that twist with the serial killer things got really intense and violent. Reze's attack on that Public Safety 2nd Division's Training Facility was a wild start to some very creative action sequences. While watching Reze fight, I found myself thinking that several of the combo attacks she pulled looked right out of a fighting game ultimate attack cinematic. Just goes to show that she was on a different level.

The Denji and Beam scenes got the biggest laughs from my theatre. The power post credits scene was a nice note for it to end on. 10/10!

Helluva fun movie, but Kimetsu is still anime movie of the year.
Now we wait for Season 2.
First they came for the EreMika shippers, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not an EreMika shipper.

Then they came for the Gabi fans, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Gabi fan.

Then they came for those who loved AOT's ending, and I did not speak out—
    Because I didn't care about AOT's ending.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

This movie has a little everything for everyone. Witty cinematography and directing feats for the cinephiles. Mindless, yet adrenaline-fueled action and fights for the causal viewers. Dramatic and romantic parts for the more sensitive people. Well-crafted characterization, deeper and ambiguous contents for the elitists. And the perfect harmony that balances all of these.

One of those rare cases when the adaptation is better than the source material.

I was like damn Reze you sadist after the movie,I fell in love where she was asking the special squad Galgali to come get some of her fist and they zoomed in on her shoulder muscles in that tanktop and I was like smack me silly Reze.. I was hoping Reze would stomp her foot on Kobeni head when she was begging for mercy..
Oh and that scene when dying humans were calling her akuma and she literally walked all over their dying body... That's my kinda woman...

I’ve gotta say, I really loved Reze in this movie. Her design is amazing, and those action scenes? Absolute fire. She just wiped the floor with everyone before Denji and the Shark Fiend finally managed to take her down. Still, it sucks that Makima apparently killed her at the end. Reze definitely deserved better.

The movie just released in my country today. I dont even know what to say. Season 1 of chainsaw man was good as a anime but did not justice the manga. But damn this movie. It was hauntingly beautiful.

From the music to every frame it was so beautiful it brought tears to my eyes. They even took some original points. Among those, my favourite part was when Aki got glimpse of the future we saw those couloured flashes, which was not in the manga.

Honestly this gets the anime movie of the year for me but it probably will not get it. Coz as for a specific movie that got released with thousands of flashbacks to make anyone and everyone watch that movie and earn as much as money possible, Chainsaw man delivered for the fans, they didnt make it for kids they made for the people who loves the series.

Genuinely one of the best anime movies I've ever seen in my life and a fucking amazing experience.

Highly anticipated and well worth the wait, I was really worried that with the new director that it would lose the unique cinematic directing style but I was EXTREMELY relieved to see that Chainsaw Man's anime adaptation has not lost any of its charm or unique touch. Some of the character models were touched up and made a little brighter and poppier which I do enjoy, but the adaptation didn't lose any of the amazing stylistic choices that I loved from the first season.

First of all, very well animated in all aspects, the final battle at the end with Typhoon, Denji riding on Beam, and EVERY. SINGLE. FUCKING EXPLOSION. was fucking INSANE. The Bomb Girl looked fucking incredible I love her design so much and this movie made me love it more, characters faces and sparks reflecting off her head, the visuals of her transforming into different kinds of bombs, and seriously EVERY explosion was mind boggling. Extremely creative use of this character's power.
The unnamed assassin from around the middle of the movie at the school was also animated very strangely. It almost looked mocapped it reminded me of how Smiling Friends characters are animated LOL but he was fucking scary as shit.
I will also say there were some incredible scenes that were amazingly adapted that I didn't expect. Aki and Angel exterminating a small Devil and the sky being all red OH MY GOD. A really standout moment for me that I think the anime really really enhanced was Reze's first transformation and biting Denji's tongue. Straight up turned it into a horror movie for that scene, the music was tense and insane and the colors turning dark red and her standing there so fucking creepy I lost my mind, and then she transforms and hits that pose bro I was geeking.
Another standout moment besides the actual fight scenes that were completely totally incredible (with some AMAZING fucking music, I am 100% looking through the soundtrack later on) was Denji leaving the typhoon on Beam's back and the colors shifting to look like the colors of Volume 1's cover. Holy shit what a good moment.

Also it's been a while since I read this arc so I can comment on the story. I really forgot exactly how self contained this arc was and I really enjoy it for that. Showing another one of the Gun Devil's agents on their quest for Denji's heart and seeing what they'll do just to get it is great. Reze is a fun character to watch, as I've already described in her Devil form, but as a companion to Denji it's very cute. Sure she's lying to him the entire goddamn time, but they're totally soulmates! I actually don't think that I think I'd rather see Denji with ahem someone else, but I do think there was potential for the two of them to be good together. Makima is really totally scary in this though, I still don't really know how she did the bullshit with the rats in the alleyway but if this arc is going to push the story forward in any way it should be to show you how scary Makima can be when she needs to be.

Something else I want to touch on is the constant eye motif throughout this entire movie. I know the OP is titled "IRIS OUT", Iris like eye ball, and throughout the song things are framed in the center of the screen like uh eye, but the pattern continued for almost the entire movie. Things are framed in the center constantly and there are a great many instances where a character stands a certain way or a cloud moves or an explosion happens that shapes the frame into something of an eye staring back at the viewer. It's actually awesome and I want to see how many instances of this there actually are. As far as what I think that means I'm almost certain it's Makima keeping a constant watchful eye on Denji at all times. Even though her role in this arc is minimal she is there at the beginning and at the end, she's always on Denji's mind for one thing, and she is always keeping watch. She doesn't let things get out of control or let Denji see Reze so they can be happy together because Makima wants Denji for herself.

I LOVE this movie I am completely totally obsessed I am SO glad I watched it in IMAX and I can't wait to see it again.

a short but epic arc adapted into a thrilling movie. i love chainsaw man to bits, so seeing it being adapted so well made me real happy :3 this movie honestly made me like reze a lot more than before, i was sort of neutral towards her but this really brought her to life for me. i also love the new style. looked at it and thought, "this is so fujimoto." i'm super excited for the next season (and the BEST arc, not an opinion, but a fact)

I was honestly not really excited for an arc to be adapted as a movie but man this movie truly blew me away. From start to finish I was hooked, the animation quality along with the song choices were perfect and the relationship between Denji and Reze was beautiful.

This was the first anime film I've seen in theatres and it was with my cousin and man it was wonderful.

The action throughout was very nice and Rezes bomb form was so cool along with the way her powers were shown. The fight between her and everyone has definitely been the best action we've seen in the anime so far and man I love Reze.

Im honestly so blown away I can barely write, truly one of a kind.

I love you Reze.

as a manga reader, when i was watching the movie i was lowk just tearing up when i saw reze cause you know that she will die without denji ever knowing she does care for him. when i first saw her in the phonebooth, i was just like.. damn.

Watching “Chainsaw man: Reze Arc” was one of the most emotionally intense moments of my life. I sat in the back of the theater but for the majority of the movie I ended up standing up, crying in awe. Many other theater goers were standing up for the duration of the film. During a particularly agonizing moment I got on my knees and shouted “NNNNNOOOOOOOO!” but the audience was so absorbed in the movie they didn’t even seem to notice. A child started sobbing and the girl standing next to him leaned down to comfort him, crying as well. After the movie ended and the lights turned on it received a ten-minute standing ovation. People in the theater were hugging each other and crying and laughing. It was easily the greatest moment of my life.

I stepped out of the theater only to see two men on their knees sacrificing a goat in front of the poster. One of them was sobbing uncontrollably, whispering “thank you, MAPPA, thank you Fujimoto-sensei.” I had to join them

Watching this arc adapted is a bittersweet feeling for me, I love Reze but I knew what was going to happen to her. It was a short arc but it was action packed. The movie was so good, I actually enjoyed this more than the last Demon Slayer movie but that's just me. I'm not saying the DS movie was bad, it's just that this has an dege for me in terms of enjoyment. And Mappa somehow redeemed themselves from the animation of season 1. I watched this on a cinema where the seat vibrates on cetrain scenes and that elevated the experience especially during the action scenes.

Reze is hot, Ueda Reina voicing a hot and sadistic character like her is just perfect. I was already excited the moment her character was teased at the end of season 1.

I feel sorry for Denji, he found someone who he likes and also likes him but she was killed before they meet again and the worst part is he never knew that she died and who killed her.
