The pt-br translation on Crunchyroll is really bad. They probably used AI or Google Translation for it, it's just a direct translation from English, with 0 nuances.

Great start! Loving the similar style to mushoku tensei, for obvious reasons. Being revived every time you die and being forced to serve a corrupt government seems like a pretty fucking cruel punishment I gotta admit. I wonder what that thief kid did to deserve it, and it better not be something obvious like accidentally stealing an artefact. My one complaint is the god damn godess loli. Why is it always like this, not everything has to be some weird overpowered lolibate pact stereotype character, I’m so done with it. Anyway, that was awesome and I’ll be watching this one closely

Pretty genericisim is better than ugly genericism, I guess. Love the art style and animation, but everything else was quite disappointing. Still, if the art holds up this should be a notch above the plethora of other shows exactly like it.

Pretty good! Animation was fantastic, but personally don't care much for the art style and characters so far...will still do the standard 3 episodes before deciding if will continue or drop the anime

@Genjiff You also noticed that the mixing had serious errors and the dubbing direction was poor, however, the voice actors were good.

But if the constant audio mixing errors and incorrect translations, giving a completely different meaning from the original, continue, this will be a case for reporting Crunchyroll.
(Since anyone watching the pt br version will end up having a bad experience.)

This first episode was amazing. Good fights and story. I like this type of dark fantasy shows, reminds me of my favorite show Berserk. If anyone wants to read some dark fantasy mangas, you can read Tower Dungeon, Bugle Call and Centuria.

And yeah those Holy Knights are ungrateful suicide idiots lol
@manelist1 thanks for the manga recommendations, also nice Dokgo pfp

Nice to see some like minded people who also saw the elements of a revenge fantasy anime to be disappointingly bad. forced hatred for someone doing their job when you're on the same side is annoying to watch and understand from a writing standpoint. people don't and shouldn't act like this and if they do its only to persuade you to be on the side of the MC. there's no variety, its just a black and white picture.
The loli is much more tolerable to see and hear than the Holy Knights pointing their sword to a guy who can do 200% of their job.

hopefully this isn't redundant behavior of the Holy Knights or the world building in this anime

Sure, the animation was good, but Jesus Christ it is rare to see an hour-long episode contain this little actual stuff. This feels like some kid putting all their cool ideas into a mixer; there is no thematic through line here, no effective messaging or even a message in the first place. It's just 58 minutes of white noise, sure, (mostly) beautifully animated white noise, but there is no substance here, no characters, no good world building or dialogue. It just feels boring and flat. The main guy might as well be worse than mister solo levelling, cause that guy at least started somewhat interesting and only stopped being a character later.

Dotta’s voice is possibly THE most annoying voice I’ve ever heard. Absolutely grating. What a shame. It’s hard to enjoy this show when you’ve got this squeaker chirping in the background. Please never hire this VA again.
@Hylianticipated the main guy is way worse (not the VA, but my god, do all his lines (and character) suck.)

I have to say the monster design is very good, they all look very creepy. Xylo was unfortunately accused of the reason lead to the previous goddess’ death but he had to do what needed be done. Studio Kai deserves all the praise for this episode!
@Gonta29 I kind of know what you mean, but that they all need to be RGB edition makes any good colour work with them basically impossible. Have fun making a rainbow look ominous.

What to say. I find myself completely speechless after watching such a masterpiece of a first episode. It goes without saying but, WTF IS WITH THE QUALITY OF THE PRODUCTION OF THISSSSSSS. It has that of a movie. I just hope it will be stable, it’s too much to ask though. I really liked the storytelling and the concept of heroes being seen as criminals is interesting and weird. I’m not gonna lie, seeing the knights using the word hero as an insult is kinda shocking lol. The characters are good, ig. I don’t like coward type characters, so Dotta pisses me off, he’s so annoying. I like Xylo, he has the vibe of an mc, I like his attitude. And I love lolis, so Teoritta is a big yes yes. This has the potential to be a masterpiece, I’m rooting for it. imo this episode is a 10/10.

The animation and art was a blessing thanks to Mushoku Tensei staff involved in it, but the story is a little boring and predictable atm. I hope the following episodes add more taste to the story telling to make a quite more interesting.

I mean you must be trying very hard not to see anything in this episode. And even if you think this is all just noise, the level of animation and action is impressive in it's own right, acting like that's just worth nothing is very strange as well.

And the main character and the backstory with the goddess, how can you say that there is nothing there? Besides the fact that this is just the first episode, of course there is going to be more backstory later on, so it's pointless to complain about it at this point.

I mean if you don't like it I'm not gonna argue because that's your opinion and I'm fine with that, but trying to make it seem like it's objectively bad, sorry, but no.

@uselessDM I'm not trying to be mean, but you saying: "you talk like there is nothing here", without showing there being anything actually here, seems rather odd. If you truly believe that this episode had any substance, then please tell me what this story is about, what its message is. Things happening is not substance, substance is the meaning those things carry, and there is close to none of it.

I had high expectations, the trailer was very good.

The main character pretends to be heartless, but he is the typical hero, with the goddess they form a team to fight against monsters... it reminded me of Ars no Kyojuu - Giant Beasts of Ars.
The main character even had a previous partner just like in Giant Beasts of Ars.

It seems pretty obvious at this point that this story will be about his redemption/revenge for what has happened to him and most likely him dealing with his own past mistakes as well, as alluded by the end of the episode. What else do you want to hear?

Ultimately we can't know what the message or the moral will be in the end, as the story is just beginning. I feel like you're demanding everything be laid out after the first episode, which isn't how this kind of story works. If we were already at the ending and that's all the backstory we were ever given and the rest is just monster of the week, killing a demon every episode I might tend to agree with you, but at this point the story hasn't happened yet for the most part.

@Lucianael Agreed, it was ok I guess. Read what little of the manga there is last night just to see where its going and was less than impressed.

And before anyone chimes in about it being a LN, if the 1st 10 chapters of the manga dont interest me I'm not buying/downloading the LN

@uselessDM I am not asking for a narrative conclusion, but for clear set-ups and narrative arc. I remind you of the fact that we are talking about a 1-hour-long episode here. "Redemption/revenge"-vague slop isn't enough for 1 hour of my time. No, this was mindless action for action's sake, a gloomy annoyingly angry protagonist with no apparent depth or even so much as a hint of personality, who can't help but exposit away the world he moves through, and the set-up of a revenge fantasy that has so little depth its inciting incident is shown in full over just three minutes, with the antagonist party not even being a character but merely an ominous robed force. There was no emotional through line, coherent narrative conceit, competent scenic writing, engaging dialogue or even a single fucking new idea apart from the premise which the show spent exactly 0 minutes on actually exploring the implications of.
