They're waiting until April to release Season 4 to give the manga a little time to get ahead. I'm pretty sure that the 4th season will be covering from around chapters 150-200, considering that's where season 3 left off unless they decide to change the anime from the manga which could be interesting and keep viewers on edge. I'm really excited for season for and if anyone wants to get ahead in the manga or food wars in general, season 4 takes place between 150 and 200 while the manga is around chapters 220-230. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong about some things. :)

At first I was confused as to where they would cut the season so that it would still make sense, but chapter 193 as suggested earlier does seem to be the perfect spot to do that. Questions still remain though.

1. Season grouping doesn't make sense to me. Chapter 193 is less than midways of a very lengthy exam arc. Will San no Sara end up being 3-cour or even 4-cour in total? It looks very weird to me if they call the 5th season (i.e. what comes after chapter 193) Yon no Sara when it just picks up the same exam arc. Why not just split the "servings" now, before the exams begin?

2. Pacing seems very uneven. Season 3 adapted almost 4 chapters per episode on average—45 chapters total—which is a lot for a shounen manga (and needless to say, it played to its detriment in the second half big time) where the previous seasons went with roughly 3-chapter episodes. Season 4 will go with only 2.5 chapters per, which will look slow and jarringly inconsistent after the breakneck ending of the preceding cour, especially noticeable on a marathon watch.

Season 5 is going to be quite exciting as it will span about 70 (!) chapters, which is obviously too long for a single-cour season, with no good satisfying midpoint to arrange it split-cour in my opinion—it's just one long streak of turbocharged shokugeki over the span of like three days in-universe with a very brief preparation period. So it will probably mark the return to a double-cour format, if only temporarily. But it won't come until at least Spring 2019... Oh, the sadness.

It's not called Yon no Sara or Shi no Sara as it's a split-cour series. Half of the episodes air one season, have a season break, and return with the second half in the following season. This gives the staff more time to produce the episodes. It's happened in the past with other series like Attack on Titan or the Durarara!! sequel anime.

Attack on Titan is not a split cour, there are a 1 year between the finish of the second season and the third season premier

Ah, I see! I removed Attack on Titan from the original post. Thanks for the information and sorry for the mistake!

Is there a good spot to cut this after 12ep? Can some manga reader answer this without spoilers please? Or it's possibly 24ep?

A split is good to give time to the producers. The manga is not so far ahead now, but all the content for the 4° season it's already done

4th season, nice, I'll watch it. Since I picked up on this show late in fall of last year I didn't have to wait that long.
So many food related anime. Japanese love food, yeeep. I can think of at least 4-5 titles right away.

Sadly I will experience this new season as a free user on Crunchyroll. I don't like being behind a week but it'll be all worth it. Soma is God.

Until which chapter do you think those 12 new episodes will go?

Around 190 sounds appropriate, but I'd like your opinion.

Avoid spoilers!

I've hardly got any interest in cooking
But man I can't stop watching this anime ..... And I know this might sound stupid to most of you but Yukihira Soma is one guy that has inspired me and fired me up more than any real person . Every time I watch this anime I seriously hope to be a confident and superb guy like him who doesn't give a shit about what people say and gives these so called "god gifted " / "genius" students a real battle head on.

Can't wait for Soma to wipe the smug right off the faces of those cocky elite ten members!!!

How do they release episodes? Is it a set amount per week or is it all at once?

Too rushed? They planned this last year, it’s a split cour not a fourth season, meaning that this is the second half of Season 3...

Even after all these months they still think this is season 4.

I know that, I was talking about how much the manga has more content compared to the anime
