This is even worse than I expected it to be. An obvious SAO clone, and an extremely boring one at that. The worldbuilding is as rudimentary as it could get, and I don't know why they decided to barely give any context or flair to the characters; ironically, they have the personality traits of actual NPCs. For some reason, they thought playing such jolly music during a supposedly intense battle was a good choice, and alongside that the CGI was really bad. There was also the music-only montage at the end that was incredibly difficult to sit through and had probably one of the most abrupt character introductions I have ever seen. Well, I guess at least the girl is cute.

This may indeed end up a 9/10 or 10/10 Top 10 series for me, but one episode is far too early to judge.

So far it's already better than any series of 2021 or 2020 and really, any post-2010 anime and going in the right direction. Looking forward to next week, but a very promising start.

I would normally scoff at 3DCGI enemies but with the context of this being an VRMMORPG I'll let it slide this time

The LN for this series is just your average isekai adventure with a cute girl MC so there's a huge chance for it to not be as entertaining mid-way through like Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear was

Sucked major balls that episode. Animation was shockingly poor during the battle scenes and that random cut to her lying in a field proceeded by a montage was terrible.

Honestly the potential of this was completely wasted during this episode.
Most of this wasn't part of the LN nore the Manga and i found most of it pretty pointless.
The start of the episode did some explanation but the part after was a complete waste of time, i read 9 volumes of the LN and really enjoyed it so i hope this anime will be more like it because if the anime continues like this episode than i will have looked forward to nothing.

What was up with the janky animation and character designs. I thought ep 1 when where studios put their best foot forward and animation got worse from there. This reminded me of the worst of the char design and mixed cgi/2d animation we got in Spider isekai.

Will give it another ep or two before dropping. Felt like they couldn't get the VA in place in time so they dubbed over final part with music only. Whole first ep felt slapdash.

Story wise and premise ok but everything else was pretty terrible tbh.

The first part was INCREDIBLY boring. The conversation in the starting was really boring too. Also I yawned for a total of 5 times during the first half of the episode and that's quite a feat considering I had 8+ hours of sleep last night.

The animation was fine, nothing bad but nothing impressive either. Some scenery scenes in second half were really pretty though. The world felt like a generic fantasy/isekai world, this episode itself felt pretty generic, nothing spectacular or unique.

The OST in the middle of the battle in first part was really good, enjoyed it a lot.

The OP was just fine, will probably skip it all the time. But the ED was pretty good and catchy, I was practically dancing on my seat when the chorus hit.

I was thinking of dropping this the whole time in first half of the episode, but it got interesting in second half so I've changed my mind.

Haha the "I am cute" at the end. Very cute indeed. Seriously would have dropped this if not for the kawai girl.

I'm guessing by the robes of "I am cute" girl, its Danblf who turned into a kawai character lol.

Hoping the pacing and story improves in next episode. So looking forward to next episode, will watch 3 or 4 episodes and then decide whether this is worth my time.

The end of an era. Thank you Wit, Mappa and Isayama.
Feeling half happy, half sad.

Rewatched this episode, and it's still the same subpar mediocrity.

Asaka's OP ain't enough to save this horrible adaptation. Erabareshi's ED ain't all that good either.

Also, what a name: Danblf Gandagore (the obvious puns to the names they're influenced from), plus an idol influence for morale.

Just looking forward to "I Am Cute..." Mira's adventures now, the only saving grace of a reincarnation. Also, the last 5 minutes being dialogue-less I'd thought was a joke, but it seems true.

Just meh.

Today's the day for gender bender, but, oof, after Fantasy Bishoujo blew it out of the park, this was an extreme disappointment.

This felt like 17 minutes of exposition followed by a 5 minute silent film. The soundtrack, especially the OP, is this series saving grace so far, but it doesn't mean you can use the soundtrack to replace the dialogue.

Also, despite the narrative info dump, I'm left with so many questions. Is this Overlord or is this .hack? Did he get properly isekai'd or did he get stuck in a game? Are the other players there with him now her?

I was thinking along the same lines and hoping there would be an in-universe reason and justification for it. I was hoping you could say "Oh, well the CGI makes sense narratively because these are the non-player characters who are just computer AI drones of the video game." But then I think there are a number of 2D-animated NPC characters who aren't played by actual humans; maybe the ones who receive more screentime.

I've been waiting for this anime. And while the beginning was alright, I have to agree with others that the last few minutes with the appearance of the girl and no dialogue was a bit weird.

I'll have to wait and see where this anime goes. And hopefully, there won't be a repeat of the last few minutes with no dialogue.

The manga was relatively good, so I was looking forward to this.
They have completely butchered it so far, I don't mind the CG, but the setting and pacing were both horribly done, if I wasn't familiar with the source material I'd drop it right on the spot.

Comparing this and kuma bear is an interesting choice. Like they are both fantasy isekai with a "cute" female main character that has overpowered abilities. But the comparison kinda ends there, like the studio could surely bend it over backwards in that direction by jamming in slice of life moments and focusing on the down chapters. But it's not really a slice of life with adventure subplots, there are pressing concerns in this story with more serious characters.

Comparing the LNs is also weird since wiseman is a much harder read, with longer arcs, and more complex topics. Like kuma bear isn't devoid of topics like embezzling funds, but it resolves it in like 6 pages then goes back to making pudding. Wiseman is almost nonstop: arcane circles, micro-energies, treatises, video game chat, engineering, tactics, town politics, debating situations, and also cute moments. Like danblf is always working in the realm of countries and politics; Yuna is just trying to find japanese food, make friends, fix things with her amazing japan knowledge (like child labor? always putting orphanages to work, never change japan) and fill her time with some adventuring. Danblf is immediately thrown headfirst into a situation involving the country he helped build under imminent existential threat and he is decades behind the times.

As for how interesting it will be. I dunno, the studio could easily ruin both volume 1 and 2 easily enough. I can't speak to the later half since it's not yet translated and the book is pretty hard in Japanese compared to something easy like kuma bear.

I actually liked the first part; if that was the start of a fantasy anime (not isekai) it would be promising. The battle was pretty bad, though; it's fine if you're gonna low-budget your CG, but you shouldn't keep it on screen that long when you know how bad it looks...and then the voiceless section was just bizarre. I'm not sure if I want it to have been an extended preview of next ep or not. On the one hand, if I hadn't read the synopsis I wouldn't have any idea what's going on, so filling in the blanks would be good, but on the other hand I've already watched it now, so I don't really want to spend an entire episode on the same plot again. Really just a terrible direction choice.

I'm not the guy you're quoting, but I was also comparing Kuma Kuma with this

But not because of how the stories play out (since I don't know how the story goes in this show), it's because the premise sounds a little bit similar like you said and because Kuma Kuma's first episode was also dubious in quality

3/5 for me. I’d put the manga of it at 4/5 actually.

As a manga reader of this, I can say I appreciate some artistic choices they made in the first part and even (to some extent) with the silent “We show with music in the background what the Light Novel would have stated otherwise”. But man OH MAN. If any of you read the manga, it’s SO much better in terms of explanation of why Danblf became a girl all of a sudden. It’s CRUCIAL. Without that, the people (maybe like many of you here) are left wondering why are the current events important and completely clueless as to what is going on with the world.

Some stated exposition is DESPERATELY missing from episode 1. And I can say for certain that if the second episode doesn’t give us that exposition presented, I might as well drop the series (despite me being it’s manga reader). Also, the CG is indeed quite bad. Not horrible, just bad.

If anything, (to any of you who still want to watch this) let’s collectively hope that will be no further drop in quality. Because then (and only then) will we be able to compare this to the legendary Berserk 2016 anime and the equally legendary Ex-Arm anime. (And I hope to all gods this doesn’t happen).

Also, to any of you calling this a trash Isekai, THERE ARE WORSE. I’d say the manga of this is in my top 20 Isekais. So... it gets better. (At least in the manga).
