Honestly the quality of this anime was surprisingly good. Voice acting for jp was perfect, animation quality was really good, and the music and sound design was also great. For the story it felt like it ended sort of quickly, like there should have been more to it, but when thinking back, the message they tried to portray was fully presented through the anime, so needing that extra content wouldn't have been necessary. though it would have been nice to have. Also did not expect to get Sakuga in this that was crazy.

Despite being only 18 minutes long this was surprisingly a very solid short film! and my favorite part of the entire thing was the beautiful soundtrack by Kevin Penkin.

Really awesome to see a youtuber actually manage to self-fund a project like this and bring along professionals from the industry to bring this anime to life!

For what was achieved to be shown within the length limit is genuinely impeccable.
Garnt/Gigguk & the entire team behind this anime project achieved what it was meant to achieve, I think at least.

The introduction to this world and characters- they showed exactly as much as they needed to, to make people want more (which I absolutely am one of them). The visuals/animation, pacing, music (KEVIN THE ABSOLUTE GOAT), VA from both English & Japanese were all incredibly well done. Watching this you truly feel the genuine care & passion poured into it, from Garnt himself & the entire team.

This will touch and relate to anyone who has moved out of their family home/home country to a new one while your family stays behind. When you have to adapt to complete change in a new setting, culture, people and the loneliness of not having your family with you anymore. Trying to find yourself by yourself and understand life/your path on your own, while making connections with people throughout your journey. But never to forget where you're originally from, your home and your family. Still having that strong connection to them. That never leaves you. You carry that along with you, always.

This short film was incredibly beautiful. I truly and genuinely hope we get more out of this world. It deserves expansion. Garnt has said he has tons of ideas already laid out for this world and the characters in it, so I hope down the line he'll get the opportunity to continue this or if not, to then at least create something new after this. He said he knows he can do better after his experience with this and I fully believe it.

Bring it on *CINEMA*

The art, music and JP voice work are good. Everything else was lackluster, just too short for me to connect with or care about the characters or narrative. 5/10.

I don't know.
Aside worldbuilding, aesthetics, animation, music and VA reperformances (I switched to the japanese dub + english subs), which are great, the story kind of misses something.
Impact?
"Oomph" or something?

Also if you really think about it, some elements didn’t make much sense. Like why Rin couldn't find some jobs on Earth related to her magic? She could make money with it.
Since both worlds have established official relations and even an immigration program. surely people from "our side" could've have figured out ways to make magic useful...saving lives with it even.
Also her father adopting her - how and why her society was fine with it?
Other things too, I don't want to dive too deep.

I mean it was fun, but nothing to hook me in.

PS
I randomly checked two reactions and both dudes couldn't find how to switch to japanese audio. What's with the YouTube illiteracy (by YouTubers)? I am disappointed in those guys.

Yeah looks like I was right in my review. It is gonna miss if you haven't experrienced what the story wants to tell.

Rin and Daichi are not characters, but a story of a part of a person's life. The documentary goes a bit more in depth from what we saw in the premiere, if you are interested please look forward to it.

Crazy how much production is required even for a single episode of animation. As a short film it was pretty good. But honestly, it was kinda underwhelming for being made by an anime reviewer.

Nice job, Gigguk

I really liked the plot-twist that Daichi was the dad of Rin all along in his younger days when he did his traveling journey, while Rin was his adoptive daughter of Daichi.

So Daichi decided to stay in the new world, while Rin decided to go back to her own world and not stay in her new world.

I really liked that Rin also gave the phone to Daichi's parents in the end; I guess Daichi never came back to his world ever again.

I also liked that we saw the "dragon" when it was a baby as well.

And the OST was amazing as well

Nice job to the whole production team. I saw it in English dub and it was great.

Beautiful and comfy little short film.
Releasing it for free on Youtube was a great move and I found it pretty cool that it had both the English and Japanese dub in the same video, didn't even know that was possible.
Great work! Looking forward to the documentary.

There definitely is a clear narrative here, was expecting things to be left somewhat open-ended but was pleasantly surprised by there being one.

Overall cute little short film, ofcourse the run time shows in the lack of expedition. But what we are shown is enough to understand what you're being told. And the themes of finding your true "home" are well portreyed for the run time.

Music is incredible thanks to the legend himself: Kevin Penkin, which significantly elevates the moments that aim to hit you in the feels.

Proud of you Garnt, this was definitely worth the watch!

Wow. I just finished watching this and I am still processing how amazing it was. It is not just another isekai like Gigguk even said it might feel like. It came across as something special, almost like a personal story from his own life. Just like when he talked about Porter Robinsons Shelter, you can feel how much of his own voice and experience shaped this anime.

Baan is anime about connection, identity and adaption. When you feel the daily pressures eroding your self and self-esteme a small kindness can relieve the pain and sadness helping you find your past smile and happiness and connect them to your present even if it feels like another life-time or world.

I really enjoyed the short film, thank you for releasing it with dual audio tracks and subtitles on youtube.

Music, animation and visuals were top notch. I feel we needed at least 15 minutes more of this, because the pacing felt rushed. If this was 2-3 episodes it would actually be very good.

It was a pretty solid if basic plot, but that's about all you can get for less than 20 minutes of runtime. Wish there was more time to fully flesh out the story and not be scared of making something more serious. Definitely got lost on what was going on a couple times.

I feel like I see what it was trying to do, and it does that fine, but not much else. It definitely feels like a longer work that got cut down. I wish we saw more of the characters' motivations, it's a little hard to relate to their struggles when the viewer doesn't know why they're struggling. Also would have been nice to know what exactly happened after they met? And this is absolutely a nitpick, but why is it called Euthania, is the similarity to euthanasia a coincidence?

I love the music, visuals, characters, plot, storyline, and message. Garnt did an amazing job with that

My only critic is that for an amazing story with big potential, I feel like it’s a waste for it to be only 18 minutes long. I understand the overall plot & message, but some people might be confused at first and if they have the tiktok attention span I don’t think they can grasp the message Garnt is trying to give which is escaping your present life and aim for something you truly enjoy as well as not being a burden to others.

I think if it was longer, it can explain or present the world more and provide context and give more character depth cuz we barely know them, and I’m curious myself.

Overall I think everything asides the length of this anime is perfect. Thank you Garnt

I always was amazed how japanese studios was able to make you emotional. In comparison to hollywood, 3 min japanese ad evoke more emotions than 99% of all hollywood films. And I'm talking about ad, goated series/films are miles ahead. At the end of this anime I was at the verge of tears - this is the best proof of quality for me.

It definitely would have fully delivered on what it was said to be if it had been full movie length or a short series, you can see that clearly. But because of how much it seemed to have to be cut down you just can't even get to know a single character properly. You can see the Rin's character poking out but you just don't get enough time.

I'm happy to see so many people related to it and were made to feel something from it. But for anyone who hasn't experienced those exact feelings I find it impossible to feel for the characters.

You can see what it could have been with a longer run time, you can see that the characters were fully developed, and what the world could have been, but unfortunately that wasn't shown off in the anime.

The auntie character just had no explanation whatsoever which could have been fine if it was reworked, but it felt like for the entire thing they had just cut down a movie length production rather than rewriting it for the much shorter runtime. THOUGH, I do have to say I did feel as though they made the right choices with what they cut seeing as they had to make it shorter, it felt like each scene, though rushed, was included for a good reason.

I really liked what I saw (though it was paced quite quickly to get to the end in time).

I would say it's a shame, and for the projects sake it is. But for Garnt, given the restrictions of the runtime and i'm sure many other difficulties, this was really amazing, and though not all of it was shown, you can really see the idea and what it could have been (not in the case of 'this could have been so much better', but in the case of how much effort was put into it)

It is fascinating how an anime reviewer can have the opportunity to make an anime of their own. I think it's inspirational as a creator. You can tell how much love was put into this, and I can't believe this is his first work.

I loved the music, as always from Kevin Penkin. I don't think you can go wrong in the music department when Kevin Penkin is the one working on it. Other than the music, I love the character designs and the use of southeast asian culture in the world building.

Well, other than that, was it anything extraordinary? Not really to be honest. The twist was predictable, the animation was nothing special(though the dragon was cool) but I know that's all just subjective. Personally, the story wasn't relatable to me, but I'm sure to those it does, it hits them deeply. I saw people in the youtube comment section say that they have worked/studied abroad away from their family and that this work hit them deeply. I've never experienced anything like that yet, so that's why I think it didn't hit me as hard as it did.

Still, even if the story didn't fully reach me, I have to respect Garnt for getting out of his comfort zone and putting this out to the world. That alone is a feat I deeply respect.

Gigguk going TheAnimeZone to making his own anime, there'll be faults within the limited time run, but this is still a phenomenal work done for him and the rest of the S-tier staff staff team supporting his vision.

The story of Daichi and Rin, two different beings from very different realities of life, coming together to a world where both the supernatural and reality hits like a wave, though I did not expect them to be related as father and daughter.

Earthlings and Euthanians coming together for a heartful family, no matter the time disparity, be it through the things that they do, or the food that Daichi does for Rin, every bit of it embodies the familial feeling, and it's emotional to a degree.

A feature film like this, while it may not be in the same wavelength as Porter Robinsion's Shelter almost a decade past, it's still a pretty good short work.

I hate the EN dub, and no, this isn't a rage bait. The fact that the MC's VA is good for a shonen-like anime doesn't mean I wanna hear him here.

Was a decent short story for the time it had but i feel like some stuff could have been cut out to expand on other things, though i know Garnt and the staff did shorten the og story a lot already.
The animation and ost were good.
One thing that bothered me though was the wings color, it was stated they change color to match the emotion the person is feeling but literally every winged person had them of a different color, even when they were fighting and must have been feeling pretty similar to one another. I also thought it was weird only the mc's wings changed color, when emotion is something that changes a lot by hour, day, etc.

Would give it a 5-6 judging by its screentime restrains.

Typical immigrant experience, your foreign degree, qualification, skills, and experience doesn't mean much to a hiring manager. I have seen banker, lawyer, and PhD holder struggle to find jobs in a new country. And you can't suddenly create new jobs based on those specific qualities, because there is no demand.

And when I moved back to my own country, my foreign experience was also questioned.

There is always inertia when it comes to these things.

it was good for what it was. Was it the greatest thing in the world, no, it was pretty generic, but it got the job done. In 18 minutes it tells a complete story with beautiful animation and incredible music. Idk what you were expecting from an 18 minute anime but it did what it needed to. At this point everybody hating is doing it just for fun.

I enjoyed this short film! As someone who has experiences with belonging to multiple different cultures, it resonated with me. Wondering where you should be, as well as feeling the emotions that come with remembering your roots; these are things that few other anime have really depicted before, but are nonetheless a very relevant part of the identities of many people. This anime definitely gets these ideas across, and it definitely comes from a personal place.

On the production side of things, studio daisy did well. The animation never looked off or stiff to me, which is more than I can say for the majority of seasonal anime. Kevin Penkin's OST also meshed with the on-screen events much more than I thought they would, contributing towards creating the atmosphere of the film. Finally, the voice acting was great; the voices felt like the characters themselves.

My personal nitpick would be with the story, which feels cut down. I am sure that some ideas that were not explored due to the runtime, which makes the emotional payoffs not as impactful as they could have been. If anything, though, I think this issue speaks more about how many ideas this short film could have offered as opposed to how many ideas this short film did offer. This is actually a good thing, because it shows that the project was clearly thought out.

Overall, congrats Gigguk and the rest of the Bâan team for this achievement! I would rate this a 6.7/10. Bâan is not the most polished work, but it is definitely worth watching.

It's here! I was looking forward to this ever since Gigguk announced this project. Nice to see Connor is also involved with the ADR and a few English roles. However, I watched this in Japanese. I didn't know what to expect, but it definitely exceeded my expectations. It's a simple story, but beautifully done. I love the world development. Rin and Daichi are wonderful characters. But the moment that was really emotional was when Rin cried when she saw Daichi's message. Very touching. Can this be a series, please?

I understood the story it was trying to portray. With a run time of 18 mins I think it did fine. It didnt need too many spoken points to make a point. The visuals told the story. Its a 8/10 for me. If it was a run time of 30 it might of helped it a bit more on helping the people that dont quite understand what is the story meant to show and be about.
