Wow Maki just went and massacred her whole family Zenin clan. Poor Mai, RIP, she sacrificed herself to buff up Maki. Great animation, lots of blood and gore, that fraud Naoya got what he deserved, he got killed by Maki's mother. Sadly the background music didn't really match the atmosphere of this episode, it definitely sounded goofy.

I think this episode was kinda bad. Maki is lowkey a bum, her only feats are killing these bum zenin clan members that i havent seen do a single thing. I mean the main dude lost to fucking bum ass choso. Like damn congrats you beat him. And her stupid power up outta no where was such an ass pull "Oh man my sister is actually me but not me so im op now" so dumb. Shes like if Toji was a bum and had no feats. Remember when toji kicked gojos ass that was cool. maybe episode 5 will be better.

Can't even imagine the amount of time it took to animate the whole fight... pretty much 10 minutes of pure goodness.
Respectfully ofc

This episode was unexpectedly chilling. After how heavy the previous episode was with info dumping and lore, this one went in the complete opposite direction and delivered pure, brutal payoff. Watching Maki tear through the entire Zenin clan was horrifying and cathartic at the same time.

After this awakening, Maki is easily one of the strongest characters in the series. The Zenin men didn’t stand a chance at all. The way she moved through them felt unstoppable, almost like watching a force of nature rather than a person.

Holy hell what an episode. Maki is the absolute goat I can't believe she took down the entire clan all on her own. Quite sad what happened to Mai but also incredible that she is now on the level of fucking TOJI.

Also... that's it for Naoya!? WOW LMAO. He was around for four episodes and got wiped the fucking floor with by Maki. Absolutely incredible. She's a fucking BEAST

Even though this post is going to be talking about an episode that is just over 2 weeks old now, I've rewatched Maki's Perfect Preparation episode over 4-5 times now and each time I'm seeing some incredible things that are done with the directing within this episode.

Directed by Shōta Goshozono, Risa Suzuki, & Yuusuke Sunouchi. My personal belief is that this episode is an incredible craft and blend of atmospheric horror and tragedy. Shōta is once again proving himself in this episode alone with his use of fisheye distortions, intimate lighting and truly fluid camera movement to depict the entire fall of the Zen'in.
From the lighting and colour used when framing the Zen'in clan, to depict the feeling of an atmosphere filled with rot and the claustrophobia of tradition, they're perfectly designed. Earthy, muted tones with deep shadows.

From the very first frame that Maki comes out of her dream with Mai, which in of itself is an incredible shift from the grittiness of the punishment pit to an immediately surreal, ethereal 'mental space'. Maki is no longer framed as the victim in any regard and Shota does an astonishing job at then framing her like a horror movie monster and all from the perspective of the then massacred Zen'in.

I'm having a slightly hard time personally understanding why the Japanese audience disliked this episode but I do understand that the anime episode itself did take away a slight amount of the feeling of somber that was depicted in the manga surrounding Mai's death and the scenes of patricide. Personally , with all of the magnificent directing put in place throughout the 28 minute spectacle, I feel that it deserves the 9.8⭐that it achieved on IMdB.

I'd like to hear thoughts, from both the Japanese and English viewers that browse this sub so that I can learn more about what they think the distinct differences between how it was adapted and what it should've turned out like.

NOT THE GAY YURI SISTER BODY TRANSFER SEX

I did not anticipate this kind of character pivot from Maki. just... holy shit. Mai tells her to destroy everything and she literally destroys everything in 15 minutes. The pacing was rough -- too fast, not any time to breathe -- but it's almost better for it.

I get the feeling Gege hates his culture lmao. The utter disdain for any kind of power structure is palpable. Familial, organizational, societal. The brainlets hype up JJK for the action, but its the story and lore that got me hooked. I love this show.

There we go your typical episode from JJK where you get boring yet important dialogue and the next half is great animated fight scenes. It gets tiring after a while. I’m a person who’s got a love-hate relationship with JJK to be honest.

Kill Bill is one of my favorite movies but I thought this episode was dogshit.
The manga did it way better and I think this whole season has been awful, I thought I'd watch it after reading the manga but now I'm dropping it.
I don't even like the animation, and everything feels so rushed for some reason.

I just do not understand why this is getting such praise. Animation wise I just was not impressed, would rather watch Blue Eyed Samurai for one woman killing a bunch of people or even better Kill Bill in live action. I don't care about any of these people so I don't care about any of them dying either. Didn't care about anyone in previous season either but at least it was continuous well done animated fighting but this has been 3 eps of boring content and now an ep killing a bunch of scrubs and a blonde douchebag. Meh.

Probably the funniest episode of the past 2 seasons.
The whole sequence when Maki finishes wave 1 and fights wave 2, felt like I was watching a parody of a typical shounen anime.
The whole thing was such a joke.

Probably one of the only decent episodes. Ep 3 was good, but this was questionable with the direction because it was not nearly as fun or just not as impactful as the manga version and especially the ost because damn was it not my type. They didn't do the Toji scene enough justice but it's fine because not every adaptation is going to be near perfect like HxH.

Also, Maki is literally the only well written female character because the others are just meh basically downright dull and this episode shows that she's unique and fun all around.

I've also heard that Gosso is supposedly leaving MAPPA since his contract ended after S3 Cour 1 of this series which is kind of a bum but oh well ik the Seshimo line will always have backup good director to carry the series so I'm not worried abt that.

At first, I thought it would just be Maki going to the Zenin clan to collect cursed tools for the Culling Game. But wow… I was completely wrong. I never would’ve expected a full massacre of the Zenin clan.
The answer was right in front of us the whole time. The reason Maki couldn’t reach Toji’s level was because she had a twin. That connection prevented her Heavenly Restriction from being fully realized. Once that bond was severed, everything changed.

The best episode of the season; it has sadness, fight scenes, and beautifully constructed shots reminiscent of the Kill Bill movie that inspired it. Maki finally got rid of the plague.

It's heartbreaking that Mai had to sacrifice herself, but Maki did indeed destroy it all for her sister. What a wonderful episode! Maki is incredible, and I couldn’t be prouder of her. Their mother killing Naoya was the cherry on top.

How does it not piss people off that a major part of Maki's character arc is a reference, does it not feel cheap that she wasn't given something more original as this defying character moment of hers

I thought this episode sucked lol...nothing we've seen has made me care anything about maki or mai, and going from weak (at least, weaker than the clan heads) to superstrong like this just feels lazy as heck.
