THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- The whole bit about being the crew being "outside of time" was interesting, but I found it kind of hard to believe that the first-time "sleepers" were so completely naive about the implications of leaving Earth for 40 years. The cop's misguided sense of duty, the pathetic failure of the guy who looks like Shaggy from Scooby-Doo to realize he was being treated as disposable (or even simply being disposed of), and the shallow, spiteful reason of the company president's daughter were all kind of interesting, but it really doesn't feel like it interacts with the whole alien monster plot well. I think I would have preferred the "time-jumper" plot and the "outside time" things to stand on their own in a kind of police drama in space rather than bringing the influences from Alien and The Thing into it. If you want an "outside of time" plot, I'd say watch Voices of a Distant Star or Gunbuster, although the latter only uses the idea in a few places in its length.

I wish the Captain could have made it off the ship as well. That was one creepy robotic cat. Especially after its face was partially ripped off. Sent with Mal Updater

About 75% of this show is a direct rip-off of Alien, and another 20% from The Thing. And yet, I still kind of liked it anyway.

I would've liked it more if it were about exploring "outside of time" expect however it took a cheesy route and turned out to be a little better version of C-grade hollywood movies and ova like Roots search.Dub really was forced, but not that bad.

I didn't notice any signs of censorship, but I have no way to know for sure. http://www.crunchyroll.com/lily-cat |

I actually loved it, even if it is totally Alien/The Thing as an anime. I love Yasuomi Umetsu's designs and the attempts at making the whole production feel mature. If it was a bit longer and took its time in integrating the horror with the character's backstories it might be more well regarded. I will say that when the real Lily died I was pretty upset. I am a big cat lover and that part felt needlessly graphic and horrible. Poor kitty, even if she is just animated...

| 2019 here. I really enjoy this anime. Not the best, but it's a solid sci-fi horror. The one that you can take on VHS in local rental store for an evening. Yes it's Alien/The Thing, but the story is ok. Can't say much about characters, not enough personal stories, but those who could survive are good. | Is it a ripoff of alien? Yeah, yeah it is. But I ask this. Why is being a ripoff of one of the greatest movies ever made a bad thing? I mean it isnt one for one. It has a few unique things about it. The animation is very high quality for its time period. And its dub is actually pretty kickass, and I usually hate dubs. The only problem I have with it other than its unoriginality which I dont mind really, is how short it is. 67 minutes just isnt long enough. Just another 10 minutes really would've made this movie so much better. Objectively I would give this a 7-8. But the enjoyment factor was so high that I gave it a 9/10. I really think this is a hidden gem. If you love alien then how could you not like this? Its basically just more alien. |
He died doing what he wanted, no matter what, right? I bet he was happy. Good luck with berserk Kouji Mori, you'll need all the help you can get. We believe in you.

Apparently every horror movie in a spaceship is an Alien ripoff. This was good. Aside from some music that didn't quite fit, or some out-of-place character development, this was a solid movie. I wasn't able to predict things easily and the monster that assimilated everyone didn't remind me of The Thing aside from visually. Totally different in terms of how it worked.

I watched this when Sci-Fi Channel used to air anime early Saturday mornings in the late 90s. 25+ years later I finally got to see it again. Going into it tonight the only part I even vaguely remembered was the scene with the cat's face falling off, so when it came up again I got pretty hyped that my memory was correct. Still a good movie overall, though a bit fast paced. It could've used about 10-15 more minutes with some calm scenes spread throughout just to help out the pacing since it seemed like every 2 minutes someone was dying or something was going wrong. It all happened so fast but still the movie was great. Only thing I don't get is couldn't either surviving character have had the bacteria in their lungs and it just didn't get full control yet? I know the Japanese guy scanned himself, but he could've gotten infected later, and the girl was never cleared. Kind of a more disturbing ending if you think they could end up eventually spreading the bacteria to the planet, infecting the whole thing. I read a comment elsewhere that maybe that's what the handcuff falling to the ground post credits alluded to, that the guy succumbed and vanished like the others had, implying the bacteria won in the end. Also not sure what to make of the cat howling at the end, if it meant it somehow survived or not. I don't see how it could've though.

All the talk of how similar this OVA was with Alien and The Thing compelled me to finally watch this. And I ended up being disappointed. It wasn't scary or thrilling enough. It lacked suspense or tension. The monster kills were dull. The characters are 1 dimensional cardboard cutouts. It focused too much on aspects like time dilation and the "imposter Among Us™" subplot, when such aspects practically had no business being here. If this was a well written script with an ample runtime, I probably would not mind those elements being in this. Though this is anything but a well written story. Lily C.A.T. is less Alien and more Alien: Covenant, but with practically none of the latter movie's strengths. Sharmat_00 said: If you love alien then how could you not like this? Its basically just more alien. Sorry, but this OVA simply did not have the spirit of the first Alien film. If I want more Alien, I'll just go play Alien: Isolation instead.

I really liked this OVA/movie, it had similar plot to Alien, and I love the Alien franchise so it's a win, One of the better old OVAs I've seen, I liked the captain's character and felt sad for his sacrifice, I wonder if the two survivors survived the bacteria in the end, I guess we'll never know, I'll give it an 8, it was really good and got me hooked-up till the end.

Bland derivative of Alien & The Thing (with a touch of 2001) whose animation spoils Amano's designs. At least, it timidly tackles a question about space travel (putting it inelegantly within a horror survival), and all of the characters have their own motivation. Score: 5/10 Enjoyment: 2/5

Wow! I loved this! I had heard it was basically just Alien as an anime, but the creators masterfully blended elements from that film and 2001: A Space Odyssey and The Thing with the same kind of existentialism we see in Cowboy Bebop or Blade Runner. Beautiful animation and designs and a cool score too!
