So we see the two main characters from Ga rei zero at the start of the episode. Kagura and Yomi. As I read it is apparently the same universe. So why doesn't mal link Ga Rei Zero as an alternative story? and the mangas as well...

Also if it is the same universe, exactly what part of the storyline does this take place? As those of you who have watched Ga Rei Zero, you would know that it is most possible that this takes place before the events of Ga Rei Zero, correct?

ga rei zero spoilers

Will we be seeing more of the MC of Ga Rei Zero?

This just reminds me to read the Ga Rei manga already...

Ga-Rei and Tokyo ESP are completely separate from one another. These cameos are just Xebec having fun with the characters lol. None of the Ga-Rei characters were in the Tokyo ESP manga. And ESP was never mentioned in Ga-Rei IIRC.

ahh, i guess the recommendations on the page were giving wrong information...:3

Ok, I see. I love the references, And I guess I just got my hopes up when I saw the GRZ charas. Thanks for clarifying.

As to the ESPer term, It's been a while since I watched GRZ and haven't read the manga, so I couldn't have known. t'hehe..

The scenes with Kagura, Yomi, and the Special Defense Force are fan service.

Well that makes me upset!

I'd been looking at Tokyo ESP as a potential anime to watch for a while, but never looked up who it was made by just because it never occurred to me (I'm dumb), so I never realized it was by Hajime Segawa.
So when I started this episode and saw Kagura and Yomi I was very surprised (for lack of a better word) but also very excited.

Either way, I know I will enjoy this series, it's just that yank and pull (or whatever expression I'm trying to use here) kind of made me depressed when I found out there was no actual connection. Especially those SDF members, I would have seriously liked to see more of them in action.

With Ga-Rei Zero being one of my favorite Supernatural-Action series of all time, I was thoroughly impressed and delighted with the cameos. Knowing full well that the two series, Ga-Rei and Tokyo ESP, share a same author, I was wondering if they'd pull a cameo... and they did! Even the Section 4 members made an appearance too. Did not see that coming.

Can't wait for the next episode!

They may not be alternative stories but for relations, there is still the characters options. It's like Baccano and Durarara.

Yomi and Kagura's cameo really reminded me of Isaac and Miria's in Baccano

actually they might be set in the same universe, crossover manga series is planned, no date confirmed though

Most of manga artists and light novel authors set their stories in same universe, characters simply don;t relate with each other, or some stories are set later in time

Sword art online/Accel Worl
Steins Gate/Robotics Notes/ Chaos;Head
Almost all Ken Akamatsu works
To love ru/Mayoi neko overrun
Hayate no gotku/Heroes of the Sea Lifesavers

When I saw them I was thinking that it was like a prequel to Ga-Rei, but now I think they just threw them in there to let us know there is a relationship.

The ESP and supernatural incident are both significant events, but there's no sign of one happened before the others.
