. . . is that the anime already seems to have set a very obvious death flag for Azuma. I mean, he's literally been showing all of the traits of a death flag character. This includes the famous Kamina death flag of having an unwavering spirit and main character aura.

Now, it wouldn't be a big issue, even with these obvious death flags, if they didn't show that first episode where events of the future are in progress and without him. Not to mention, Minami doesn't even remotely mention him and only wants to fight the White Girl.

I mean, there are other small things, like pacing, but that one really burns. Knowing that a character is already destined for death takes away the impact of his death in general.

P.S. Please don't spoil for me if he actually dies or not. If he doesn't, I want to be surprised.

Same here. I started to read the manga after episode 3 and was almost sure Azuma dies before the final battle. I won't spoil if it's true or not, but I know my reading experience would probably be different if I wasn't telling myself "no, don't get attached, he'll die soon" all the time.

I actually don't like the whole In Medias Res idea here. It's one thing to do a bad adaptation, but why spoil such a good manga for potential new readers?
