THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Rinka needs more training tbh. I don't doubt her skills and she actually does improve a bit. Welp, even master Yoshi is somewhat impressed. It's funny how they also used some Buddha references.

This was a slow episode imo but I am glad they fleshed out some of Kyoutarou and Minami's past a bit. Thought that was important although the focus was weak. And seriously, some espers can be so cruel in this show.

Ayumu is way more BA than I thought when I saw him in ep1...well until he started getting owned XD Really loving Ogata Megumi's voice though <3

Rinka mastering her counters was awesome and totally didn't expect Murasaki to be able to use her ability in such a way; remembering the weapons memories and being able to use it to its best potential :O BA! But well, she can't use it for long so...

Well for me Tokyo ESP sofar only stands out in one aspect and that is its absolute pathetic animation quality.

Just looks jerky and very sloppy.

Plot is just meh/forgettable and the pacing is allover the place. i dont need to know the source to tell its terrible. i doubt much will change in 5 more episodes.

Teamwork by Ayumu and Murasaki. Now his mom finds out that he has esp. Wonder how she will take that.

I'm so relieved that Ayumu's mom looks a lot different than she does in the manga. Now how will she face Ayumu, though?

This episode really didn't have much in it, but hopefully we'll get some plot movement next week..

Rinka beats the afro guy, finally! Same for her friend! In the second half they fight an esper with electric powers and defeat him with the power of teamwork! Looks like the afro guy's mom isn't happy about him being an esper though.

Ayumu got owned by Rinka so badly.

Ayumu's precognition power is sure pretty useful.

Ok, so I'm guessing that the nun-chuck Murasaki has belongs to Bruce Lee and she was able to beat him using the memories of the Legends in the nun-chucks.

Ayumu was really badass at the beginning of the episode by giving Rinka a beating and made fun of poor Murasaki, but until he got owned in style... meh, you can't win them all.

Ayumu's precognition is actually really handy for fighting and getting out of sticky situations, although if the target is too far and he can't reach it in time it's useless I guess.

Aha, Murasaki can learn how to fight by touching weapons or something to that degree it seems.

Murasaki was planning on becoming Brucee Lee I presume...

It looks like Kyoutarou is still captive and trying to escape... but at this rate he'll be the weakest character around if he dones't train like the rest :o

Good thing Ayumu knew how to get out of that sticky situation with that esper that could use electricity to attack and that Murasaki Lee was with him.

I wonder if Ayumu's mom will accept him as he is or reject him hmm.

Basically it's more enhanced training for Rinka and Murasaki, where Ayumu test their abilities to see if they are fitting for the hero title. Though he got beaten afterwords where his ESP only relies on seeing the future.

I like the second half of the episode tbh, where we see how Ayumu handles in a dangerous situation with an enemy ESP, about to kill her mother. Although they got him, but his mother felt really shocked about it.

I like we get some character development for Ayumu and his ESP power explained smoothly. But I don't know if his mom will be enemies to her son or not. Also Murasaki's abilities was pretty interesting, but I want to see more if what her powers look like, even though it is funny sometimes.

ooo This show just keeps getting better. I love all the different powers, and how they go through each ones weakness. The story is a little generic, but that doesn't mean i'm still not waiting to see what happens next!
Good Espers vs Bad Espers will probably get REALLY intense soon.

Hey, hey more terrorism!

Another decent character building episode focusing quite a bit on the Ayumu and Murasaki. Also brings on the forefront of how an ESP kid feels about his anti-ESP activist mother. I wonder if he will lie about it and show it as bluffing or embrace it like a true shonen hero!

And intriguing fight as well. Rinka's training was also handled well. The manga must be really slow if we're seeing this despite the rushing of the material, or the directing and script have actually improved!

4/5 Very well done, brings its ideals on the forefront. Basic, but well founded and competently executed.

Ayumu's cockiness was about to throw me off, until Rinka and Murasaki beat him up that is. Murasaki looked pretty BA with the nunchucks + Bruce Lee tracksuit combo.

The first part was slower again but I'm glad they're showing us character progession, even though it's not the best one I've seen.

Didn't like how the fight in the second part was executed. It felt extremely unnatural.

It's animated by XEBEC, so the bad animation quality is not that surprising. Pair it up with a crappy director and you have this.

I liked this episode a lot more than some of the previous ones, it wasn't the main plot but it was a good look at the other characters ^_^

Well Rinka really changed in those couple of days in her combat abilities. Also looks like Ayumu and Murasaki teamed up to defeat that guy. Hopefully the mom doesn't get all discriminatory because her son's an Esper since that would really suck.

Training pays off~! Just look at how awesome Rinka turned out. o-o
Or, maybe she just found out the secret to....that "guys" futuristic Esper powers. I forgot his name, and MAL doesn't have a picture of him, so I don't know his name haha. xD
But, that's a pretty cool Esper powers, it's just too bad that it can only see in the future for a bit, and not that long. :/

Anyways, that Electric Esper dude got owned by water, then by AWESOME nunchuck moves, and he's down. o-o
And it looks...like the Mom now knows of her son's secret....oh boy...... :/

Gotta stop myself from reading anymore of the manga this week and the next,as last week I basically spoiled myself by reading everything this episode covered yet still haven't gotten to the point where Kyoutarou was captured. And yea,it's definitely nice to see anything related to him & Minami as well. I'd really like to see the two talk to each other more, share their thoughts & points of view, even if the anime doesn't have enough time to go into details(I'll use the manga to fill in the gaps anyway),at least a bit will do.

I think it's important for the anime to at least scratch the surface of certain moments and make the viewers think that maybe there's more to it,which can lead some of them(mostly the ones who are really interested in the series) to look into the manga too, especially when the readers confirm there is indeed more. In that regard,Tokyo ESP's been doing it so far and it worked for me. IMO,the worst thing this and any adaptation for that matter can do is skip out on important events entirely, without even hinting at their existence. When that happens,no matter how much fans of the source material will claim how it's much better & stuff, most anime-only viewers won't have much incentive to look into it. Of course faithful adaptations would be great & all but we all know we're not gonna get that very often in which case,it's good to have at least a few straws to grasp on. Just my point of view.

Yes, it's Megumi Ogata. I think she does a great work with Ayumu, although it's to be expected from a seiyuu of her caliber.

I try not to think too hard about the manga while watching, it just makes me sad about this missed chance.
I laughed at Murasaki's "300" shirt though. I bet her father bought it.

Not happy with this either, didn't feel right not having him there while Rinka was developing as a character

Watching Ayumu get a beat down twice in one day was fun, especially once Murasaki entered the sparring scene. Need more Yoda's panda boob touch, hopefully we'll get to see it next episode

Those type of people are very common in the real world. People like them don't like things that go beyond the norm and don't try to understand anything that seems different, which in this case would be espers.

Don't know why but I really enjoy watching kids like Ayumu:
Has powers but is very reluctant to use them.
Doesn't want to change his current lifestyle, but knows that it's inevitable.
Wants nothing to do with the fight and being a hero, but is forced into it when the enemy hits a bit too close to home for comfort.
In the end his one good deed of saving his mother will lead to his being shunned, disowned, or worse yet arrested. Pretty much prepared for the kid to start living at Rinka's place soon.

Still don't get why Azuma still insists on trying to talk sense into Minami. I highly doubt she'll ever give up her ideal, especially since no one knows why she chose to take up said ideals anyway. I mean, if she were indoctrinated, then he would have a chance, but she chose the way of terror of her own volition. Still, I hope they reveal her reasons for doing so soon, she's pretty much due some character development.
