Now with discussion about the mind never ceasing to stop floating and only exhausting itself overlayed with the fire it gave more context to the symbolism of the fire. It was soon after Asai set the flame that he started to have suspicions, perhaps the mind is like that fire, using up resources and exhausting itself. Soon there will be nothing left.

Asai was looking everywhere for the knife and the axe. I wonder if it was instinct, fear and self-preservation. He acts as though asking a simple question would be too much suspicion, meanwhile, he'll be seen doing something like that. Asai is definitely losing his mind. To not find them anywhere reads to me as though Ishikura kept the knife on his person. And it's a shame, because with Ishikura giving Asai the knife earlier, and waiting for him at the window, paired with the fact that he doesn't look nearly as nervous as Asai, and he sometimes has a slight smile I started to suspect maybe he's not all that bad. He seems to be doing small gestures to assure Asai. But that was definitely the wrong train of thought to go on, immediately after I began to think that stuff we see that he is absolutely planning to kill Asai. And right after that, it’s coincidentally Asai’s turn to ask Ishikura for forgiveness.

Asai is looking bad, it seems like he’s having some physical problems due to his panic now, he collapsed in the snow. And speaking of that sequence, it reminded me how much I love Kawaguchi Kaiji’s character art. The snow looks great too and seeing that window through the snow was super striking.

I also began thinking it was weird for Asai not to try the lodge phone anymore but with how paranoid he is, it can probably be chopped up to that.

We finally see Ishikura's intentions. I guess that his regret for the murder was only temporary and caused by being near death himself seeing as he's not reluctant to do it again. And now that he's gained Asai's trust it'll be easier to do.
