This episode was going so good. Characterization was good, story beats were good, even Thenardier has this really cool motive rant that paints him as final boss tier villain.

Then they fucked it all up. The cliffhanger would have been so easy to pull of. Jean and Thenardier look at each other and are shocked. Thenardier has made himself akin to a second Javert for Jean. Cosette would be so triggered because his presence alone scared her. But instead, we have Marius somehow look into the crack which somehow connects the two rooms together despite being a hall apart and is all "ZOMG! I KNOW HER!"

It made sense that he's able to hear what's going on in the other room, but how is he able to see it? Wouldn't it be a better cliffhanger if Cosette saw the Thenardiers and suddenly get flashbacks to them being assholes to her and start freaking out and that's what catches Marius' attention?
