Ah, the end of the journey...

Quite an experience here although I felt like some chapters were a bit long. But overall, the experience was refreshing with all sorts of stories told from this series.

Wow, I am surprised that's it for the discussion here...

I disagree with the only comment above, though, I think otherwise - chapters were actually really short, even though they were long compared to what most of us are comfortable with.

The pace of the story was just fine, but the amount of depth put into the religion explanation could actually be extended.

I will agree though, the manga was both very enjoyable and enlightening, I got to know quite a lot about buddhism, since the manga made me look it up a bit closer.
The teachings are actually rather good - it's not a money grabbing religion, which makes you believe some inexistant being, instead it teaches you how to live and respect your fellow humans, which is realy a proudoworthy goal!

The idea itself is great - but it's hard to realise, though, just as manga pointed as well.. I think manga story even seemed more enlightening than the 'history' version.
It actually showed that people can still make mistakes and sometimes learn from them.

One thing I didn't like, rather, I hated and consider it the biggest flaw there is - humor.
I realy found it very, VERY unsuitable, since it often involved jokes including unappropriate stuff for their age.
This totally dropped the atmosphere for me, every time I saw it.

Other than that, I realy enjoyed it, when I have more time, I will try to check the Adolf series from same author, I guess it could prove to be rather good food for thought as well.

God. that was beautiful.. i'm speechless.
I wonder if any other of Tezuka's work will manage to surpass this great piece of work.

This reminded me a lot about the mythological comics I used to read when I was younger. A simple, yet effective look at an important legend. The art was quite good (the backgrounds were amazing). I didn’t care for all the characters, but I do think Osamu did a good job in portraying people as not truly virtuous or truly evil.

The humour in this, however, is its biggest drawback. The anachronistic jokes really takes you out of the story sometimes, although since I’ve read one of Tezuka’s works before it wasn’t as jarring but it’s still very annoying.
