This anime is an alternate timeline. If you don't believe me then you must not have watched the movie because this is the timeline that the alternate Haruhi was from. This is why the art style is done so differently. They're not worse; it's a style choice to differentiate this from the other Haruhi seasons. This is why Kyon is so different as well, it's a different Kyon altogether. Also, this art style is supposedly closer to the manga.

I think too many people expect this to be too similar to the original Haruhi series and if you watch it with that in mind YOU. WILL. NOT. LIKE. THIS. You have to break away from the thought that this is the same as the original animes.

So far I wouldn't say this series is super amazing, but I do think it's good and it's enjoyable. Plus Nagato with emotions is pretty cute so I think this show has been entertaining. Still, it's too early to really say much on this show.

Incidentally, I read the first few volumes of the offshoot manga, so I understand this series. I'm also rapidly calling out what's about to happen, but see above for why. More importantly, I think it's not so much that this is an alternate timeline that people aren't into this spinoff, but that the characters themselves are so different. Just my guess, anyhow.

The movie too was an "alternate timeline", and they did well without that, I'm not sure your point really works there.

Agreed, The movie made it obvious that it was from a different timeline.
Not to mention that the artwork is only different because this anime is not made by Kyo ani. NOT Because they were trying to make it "Like the manga"
These guys just cant afford to do as nice art as kyo ani and thats what it really boils down to.

Kadogawa did D-Frag. Their art style is good. It's just different from what we're use to seeing from this series.

You can tell it's a different timeline. Besides Haruhi having long hair, Asakura is still alive.

I've only seen the first episode so far but I like it. It seems more relaxed than the original.

I have not watched it yet but please allow me to differ from your opinion concerning the art style

Every frame was so pleasing to look at.

The main character may be well done in a character design perspective but the art style was actually what backed me off from watching Haruhi Suzumiya no Yuutsu at first

I was praying every single minute for Haruhi not to devour my soul through her huge eyes.
I think the main issue with the 'new' Haruhi is that she doesn't transmit the same expressions, which shouldn't be an issue as it's a different timeline.
Whether the anime will be good or not should be, as the author said, separated from how it holds up to the original Haruhi Suzumiya no Yuutsu.

Kadokawa is a publisher of manga and sponsor shows. They didn't animate the show. Brains Base did.
