| We really needed this thread. I think Hudson is the best. Now you probably think "wow he's only the sidekick" but let me tell you otherwise. Even though he’s the narrator of the story,Hudson plays a surprisingly limited role. In fact, he does not help solve the case or even contribute to the action of the story in any way. That is not to say, however, that Hudson is irrelevant. In fact,Hudson is just as much the center of the story’s form as Holmes-san is the center of the story’s plot.Hudson shapes the story for watchers, who see and understand only what Hudson himself experiences. Hudson's good nature, eagerness, and warm feelings for Holmes-san enliven the anime and transform it from a mere recounting of a crime and its solution into a rich study of human behavior. The creators transforms the story from a straightforward mystery into a complex study by putting readers directly into Hudson’s shoes. Although far from dull, Hudson is like most watchers in that he simply isn’t as observant as Holmes-san. The fact that he is so average and genial also makes him instantly accessible to viewers,who don’t always understand Holmes-san’s reasoning, but they admire him all the more because of Hudson’s warm descriptions of him.Hudson also tries to redeem Holmes-san for readers by suggesting that he is a benefactor of humanity, even though Holmes-san himself admits that he solves cases merely for his own recreation. |

| ^^^ Flawless post.. I picked Hudson, too. If he wasn't portrayed to be so average then most of the jokes (made by the almighty Holme-san) would fall flat imo. He appears simple but he is one cunning man, I like that. Props to the creators. Hats off. |
