Curly hair from his grandma lol...

Nice start so far. The mature feeling of the realistic life style of this series has my interest. Not only that, the characters are quite interesting from the looks of things.

It really makes you wonder how a story about introducing women to the sex industry will go on for 400 chapters.
There must be some point where he involves himself in the girls lives and comes to a deeper understanding of what he's doing, at least that's what I'd like to gather from the picture here on MAL.

Looks pretty interesting. Reminds me of Yamikin Ushijima-kun but nowhere near as dark.

I really loved this chapter, it was a great introduction to the series. It was gripping, it already introduced an awesome character dynamic of the two supposed leads, and it was hilarious as well as dark and realistic. The art style changes are some of the most abrupt I've seen but it adds to the comedy for sure in a way I think most 'chibized' art fails to do!

It's comedy like when Shiratori chased after his 100 yen, had his hair explode out of his hat, and then gave a juicy and instant punch to a guy in front of his gang because he insulted his grandma's curls was serious hysterical to me. The contrast between his punch first-think later attitude and expression that hardly changes with his awkwardness around ladies was another great part. Further, and I will bold to emphasize this, there was literally a visual joke in how a text bubble was written with his hair, I've never seen something like that before and it's a joke only possible in manga, it couldn't work in any other form, that's super cool. I also loved how he tossed a bowl in shock when Mako called him cute. I hope you get my point about me liking the humor a lot.

But it wasn't just comedy, like Mako described, the guts Shiratori showed were scary and intense. The fact he'd punch a guy purely because he wanted to with no fear of being beaten to the ground and the way he'd look directly into their leaders eyes as if he were begging him to join in showed a level ferocity that's quite scary in itself. He even said if he didn't find Mako so cool he would have punched him and ran off, which made it surprising to me when he showed some sense of understanding authority when he bowed to the club owner. That said, I can understand why he has a hard time keeping a job and turned to gambling.

On the other side Mako is one equally scary guy. In fact, he's far scarier than Shiratori. I get the vibe he liked the ferocity in his heart and wanted to tame him. He's a man who loves deceiving women and we've seen him both dominantly make that girl give him her number and in the same way pull along Shiratori by forcing him into following him along with a meal and not giving him time to think. I really think the ferocity of Shiratori's stare inspired Mako to want to control him, and we saw how when the stubborn Shiratori refused him at the end how scary Mako got. He changed from his unnervingly innocent smile to a serious and commanding tone. "You've got the jitters that's all there is to it!", as if he refused to let him get out of his grip. Plus he's got the facial scars to prove he's been through some stuff.

On top of all of that the fact that Shiratori's values have been challenged with the dark reality of the underworld adds even more intrigue. He seems to love women earnestly, his dream was to get a good job, be a cool guy, and get a hot girl. So he doesn't like getting ladies into this kind of work and especially not deceiving them, but from the end it seems he's already been influenced to accept that this is going to happen with him or without him anyways. Seeing the dirty club owner get the girl he brought in to strip and go back for training made me feel a little sick!

I may have overanalyzed this chapter but I super loved it and thought it was a strong strong start. I'm excited to continue the series.

2nd read through edit:
And I have started a second reading of this! One thing I appreciated more this time was the 100 yen situation. Tatsuhiko's dreams failed and so did his makeshift dream of gambling, all he had left was 100 yen. The fruits of his labor, symbolic of all his hopes and dreams, dropping it must have been crushing. Yet poetically it led him to a life-changing opportunity, a run in with Mako and Burst.

As I thought last time, this chapter is a great introduction. Setting up Tatsuhiko and Mako quite strongly. I had this theory about Mako wanting to tame Tatsuhiko but in retrospect I think it's simply Mako seeing potential in him. If he can get someone willing to fight a crowd and ask for more to be on his side then that's a good asset to have. Moreover, it sets up a good feel of Mako's two faced personality and Tatsuhiko's conflict; that is, to hate deceiving woman but to accept that this is a world where this kind of dirty work must be done. It's not a leap to assume Tatsuhiko's interest in Mako and otherwise poor life situation gave him the push he needed.

Cool start, feels like it could be quite a heavy topic for a manga, interested to see where it goes!
