Why is the rating so low for this show?
The pacing is great.
The character development is good.
The humor is always great.
Maybe its just me but i expect this show to grow up to like 7.7-8
7.31 at the moment is just hysterical.

Couple things:
1. Still airing (show is either rated very high during this time due to bs hype which this show doesn't have or is rated very low bc it is legit horrible)
2. People rating low bc it's not a pre-Barakamon styled story and whining it's a gag comedy instead (look at only whiny review posted so far).
3. Tags onto #1. Scores while airing are knee jerk. Based on hype (or lack there of) and how I'm feeling this week trend.

This is not a hyped (seriously hate that word now) show and a gag comedy at that. While airing, a score above 7 having to deal with the pissy "it's not Barakamon" ratings is pretty decent.

I myself am enjoying it for sure but I don't toss my two-cent rating in until after a show finishes. If I had to choose between a 7 or 8 at this point, I would choose a 7.

As much as I enjoyed "Barakamon", this one doesn't give you the "Barakamon" feeling, but I am enjoying it and would give it an 8 or 7 cx

If you don't think the gags are funny you might find the show random and stupid. The girls who throw themselves at Handa are boring and tiresome. Handa here is antisocial to the extreme (his paranoia is not funny)whereas on the island Handa interacted with everyone normally It is the characters who were interesting. Here the characters are not interesting

Seriously dude ?
7/10 is a good rating, you've got to be kidding me.

Personally I give it 4/10 since I find it really boring and annoying... all the characters are awful and dumb with their misunderstanding.

I was one of those people hoping it would be like Barakaman, I've watched that series three times total because I absolutely love it. This was quite disappointing at first, but I got over that somewhat and looked at this as it's own anime.

Unfortunately, even then it's not all that great, honestly feels like Sakamoto, but instead of everything being solved dramatically and with style, it's misunderstandings about everything, from everyone, that somehow leads to even more misunderstandings. And I find those misunderstandings too be pretty far fetched in some cases with this show, in a way where it comes off as stupid, in a not so funny way.

I plan to drop this if the next episode I watch doesn't keep me entertained at all, and will probably give this a 5.

I'd say the current score is good enough, it delivers what I expected from the source.

It's about where I would expect it, not everyone on MAL uses a 8-10 scale.

Because it's terrible.

It's based on completely dumb misunderstanding that only seem to work because every character already read the script (or they're all completely retarded which isn't any better), and once you realise that it's only going to be that type of shit (so after watching 2 minutes of episode 2) the show loses basically every slight comedic value it might have had from its payoffs because you can call out everything that will happen from fucking miles away.

I almost dropped it 5 minutes into ep 1 due to all the meta bullshit purposely wasting the viewer's time but I gave it another try since a friend of mine likes the manga, still stopped watching after episode 3 because the jokes feel forced and the whole thing is completely boring and predictable.

Not to mention that the show came out at the wrong time since Sakamoto aired last season and relies on the same outcomes as this show except that they are well built-up, make sense and are actually funny. So it's hard to watch Handa-kun without comparing it to it's far superior counterpart.

I disagree with the character development being "good" since it feels like everyone so far regressed as a character (at least in the 3 episodes I've seen). People go from being a gimmick to being Handa's bitch which isn't the greatest development they could have had.

I also don't really see where the Barakamon argument comes into place because I don't know anyone who walked into this expecting Barakamon, even if they did, all those hopes were shredded after a couple of minutes since it was very obviously not going to be the same kind of shit. The anime are barely related, they are different genres altogether and only have one common character.

Maybe it would have a better score if it wasnt relaetd to Barakamon at all, but then it wouldnt be as popular, idk whats better. I like the gags a lot and think people are taking the show too seriously and overthinking it, when it doesnt even take itself seriously(like f.e. Kintama).

PS. 7.32 on MAL isnt that good seeing how many shows have a higher rating(2222 to be exact).

Oshii is probably the only director that loves dogs. He thinks he's a dog himself.

That's right, its slime! It will dissolve your clothing slowly before my eyes!

This is satire, right? Because none of this is true.

I hope it ends below 7, but I doubt that. WataMote had a similar concept, but was considered cringeworthy by the end. At least it felt more realistic than this, was actually handled well. This one has so many misunderstandings. On one side, it goes for realistic (by showing Handa's paranoia. social awkwardness) and on the other side, utterly ridiculous (everyone admiring Handa for dumb reasons. jumping to stupid conclusions. ridiculous misunderstandings)

I guess the message is that us humans tend to treat their idols like Gods?? but I hope the show also mentions later that it's wrong, and idols should be treated more like humans. It's okay to admire, but not to expect them to be person of your dreams. If it goes a bit more in that angle, I'm willing to change my score.

That being said, it would probably end around 7.5 meh.

I read the manga. Skimmed up to Chapter 15 after 10 chapters because IMO it's fucking bad. It sucks. The (non-existent) story plot is weak as fuck. It's boring and unfunny. Handa-kun is just a horrible character as well.

The being misunderstood can work with the right character and moments or plots but ... man Handa-kun just can't pull it off.
I'm surprised that shit got an anime.

Until it gets a solid story plot or gets serious with a conflict of sorts in the story ... until it gets to the breaking point of Handa-kun realizing he's misunderstanding everything or rather, if it was actually funny with a rounder character and not a extremely bland flat protagonist with equally boring lacking side characters ... this story will continue to suck.

They adapted it into an anime WAY too fast when it wasn't even in 20 chapters. Fucking idiots. It's bad.

Disappointed in some of the posts here, but I guess if a comedy anime doesn't have someone slipping and accidentally grabbing a tit, then getting punched into the sky while a girl screams pervert/idiot or someone making puns (that like a weeb you can pretend to speak Japanese fluently enough to find funny) then it's not a proper comedy anime.

Of course those with a sense of humor more typical of what's found in the west will likely appreciate the smart and funny writing this show has to offer. As literally seen above, if you're the type of person who finds masterpieces like Konosuba or Kaguya-sama "boring" lol then it's safe to say you're not gonna find this type of humor funny. On the otherhand if you do like shows like those or even something more like a Panty And Stocking or something more like a Saiki, I think you probably will enjoy this show.

Although if you dislike repetition in humor or scenes that are painful to watch in humor then it'd certainly be understandable not finding this show to your liking (although that's generally not the case with its detractors seemingly). I guess the same with hating the misunderstanding trope in anime (I certainly despise the trope) but I don't really think that applies here since the show is self aware about it (it's the whole basis of the show) and is using it for comedic effect as opposed to using it for actual plot purposes not that this show even has a plot which is also probably the biggest reason so many people review bombed it; because it was a Comedy rather than a proper prequel of the same feel good Slice Of Life strong character development vein Barakamon was. They're two completely different shows really, heck I didn't even know they were related when I watched this show (didn't realize it was the same protagonist until after the end).

None the less, Handa-Kun clearly was a great show deserving of at least an 8 if not higher. And if more people had been willing to give it a chance at the time it certainly would have hit said rating.
