So, this kind of thread has long been in my head, considering that getting a feedback to your works ain't easy. Well, what's this thread all about? This is where you can earn a feedback to your work, but of course, you also have to give one.

Avoid posting unnecessary things/comments here, please. Use the forum comment section for that.

What to do?
Look for the last post in the thread which contains a review and a request. Is the request for a story you want to review? Provided that someone hasn't tagged the player above, put a placeholder in your post ("Tag. Reviewing [story X]"). Placeholders should only be used if you intend to review the story right there and then. To enforce this, placeholders will expire after four hours (and will be deleted). If something comes up and you can't finish, please edit your post to let me know so it doesn't hold up the game.

Then go review the story. Leave your review on the story itself (if applicable; otherwise, simply write the review on your post here). When you've submitted it, copy it and edit your post to paste in the review here. Only then can you request which story of yours to be reviewed.

Example:
Review to (Story Title):
(Insert your review here)

Making a request

Do not write the request if you haven't posted your review and copied it here. When you place your request, put it at the end of the post and bold it so that it's easy to find. Remember to include the URL.

Allowed requests:

  • One-shot stories, either original or fanfics.
  • A chapter of a multi-chapter story, either original or fanfics. Do not ask for a specific chapter, unless said work is a collection of one-shots and the chapter can stand on its own. Let the readers begin from the first chapter/prologue and progress.
  • Poems and drabbles, either original or fanfics.

The format should look like:

Requesting a review for: (Story Title - Original/Fanfic) (Include the Link/URL to your work here)
Trigger Warnings: (Graphic depiction of violence? For fanfics, does it contain spoilers to the source material? Etc.)

If you allow the next player to pick a story, then the format should be:

Requesting a review for one of these:
1. (Story Title - Original/Fanfic) (Include the Link/URL to your work here)
2. (Story Title - Original/Fanfic) (Include the Link/URL to your work here)
3. (Story Title - Original/Fanfic) (Include the Link/URL to your work here)
Trigger Warnings:
1. (Graphic depiction of violence? For fanfics, does it contain spoilers to the source material? Etc.)
2. (Graphic depiction of violence? For fanfics, does it contain spoilers to the source material? Etc.)
3. (Graphic depiction of violence? For fanfics, does it contain spoilers to the source material? Etc.)

If you're requesting a review to a fanfic, include the name of the fandom. For example:

Requesting a review for: The Hellhound of Billion - Gungrave Fanfic

For crossover fanfics:

Requesting a review for: Crossfire - Gungrave/Trigun Fanfic

What a review should include:

The minimum requirement for this game is a review consisting of one-hundred words and three aspects from a story. Fandom blind disclaimers (for fanfics), self introduction, and quotes from the story (although this one is encouraged) do not count towards the word requirement. You may and are encouraged to write more.

For poems and drabbles, because they tend to be very short, the minimum requirement is decreased to fifty words and one aspect.

So, what are the aspects?

  • Opening: Does it make you want to read on? Does it lack a hook? How so?
  • Plot*: Clichéd but well done? Interesting idea but poor execution? Does it move too fast or too slow? What about the world-building?
  • Characters*: Not enough to give an impression? Feel sympathetic? Realistic? Do you find yourself rooting for character X? How so? Do mention the character's traits if possible.
  • Style**: Is there enough description? Does it contribute to the story's atmosphere and make you feel immersed to the story? Is the metaphor fitting or out of place? Too many adverbs? Any awkward sentences? Any info dump? How so?
  • Dialogue: Is it too stiff? Does it fit the age of the characters who are speaking? Does it flow well? How so?
  • Spelling and Grammar (SPAG): Typos? Something grammatically wrong? Do provide the correction and/or the explanation here.
  • Enjoyment: Does it make you laugh so hard? Cry? Give you so much feels? Creep you out? Or maybe the suspense keeps you on the edge of your seat until the end? How so?
  • Fandom Blind Readability***: As a fandom blind reader, can you understand the fanfic easily? Without needing to check the wiki? Does fandom blindness take away the enjoyment?
  • Ending: Does it make you want to proceed to the next chapter? Does you feel closure? Does it make you feel happy or sad? Is it brilliantly ambiguous? How so?

* These aspects must be included in the review, unless it's a poem or a drabble. Now that you've got two, you just need to pick another aspect to reach the minimum requirement.
** This aspect must be included in a review to a poem or a drabble.
*** For fanfics only.

Feel free to be a little rambly/gushy and express your feelings as you review! It's a good way to keep the environment friendly.

How do you include concrits? The sandwich method is usually recommended: praise - concrit - praise (or the other way round). In short, zigzag between praise and concrit. Here, after discussing the good of the aspects, you can add the concrit if you think something can be improved in the story.

If you are to read a fanfic, don't be afraid to read something from a fandom you don't know about. You can treat it like an original work. And hey, mentioning that the fanfic is readable or unreadable without any fandom knowledge and explaining how so actually contributes to the minimum requirement!

What ifs

  • A review is not up to standard: The game is paused until either the tagging player writes a make-up review to the author (fulfilling the minimum requirements) or simply gives up. The former, if successful, will grant the tagging player the chance to earn a review from the next tagger, while the latter will result in removal of the post.
  • A review is not for the story that was requested: Same as above, only that the tagging player has to write the make-up review to the requested story while fulfilling the minimum requirements.
  • Problem player: Trolls and those who don't show any attempt to improve their reviews after many times will have their posts deleted quickly.

Happy playing!

Because nobody is above me, I'll start first. However, I will still review the player who tags me and has finished his/her review to me.

To be edited.
