@Usagi, so you definitely won't mind if I call you "Katie?"
I'm Alex. I've just finished my BA in Sociology and I'm moving onto Law school in September. Academically, I'm interested in everything. I would take every course if I had the time and money, but alas, we only get so many years on this blue marble and I don't feel like paying off student loans for eternity.
My academic career has taken me through psychology, sociology, anthropology, women's and gender studies, political science, philosophy, computer science, history, and English literature. I've managed to avoid physics, math, bio, and chem, although I don't mind those subjects -- although my interest in physics is quite high.
As far as relevance to this group, I'm a little familiar with philosophy on a surface level, but I'm by no means an authority on any of it. The courses I've taken have involved philosophy of religion, ethics, and death. I'm familiar with a lot of major philosophical arguments, but as most of us are aware, this is one area where not much is settled.
My interests are somewhat vanilla. I play a good amount of video games. Used to game a lot before college, but now I mostly play CSGO. I'm actually really passionate about video games. I was going to get into video games media or computer science if law school didn't work out. I also play guitar and piano to an acceptable degree. I do have a pretty good ear, but again, college doesn't let me justify practicing for hours every day. I go snowboarding a couple times a year and I'm starting to get into old novels, so I hope to get some Jane Austen and Charlotte Bronte in over the summer. I like wrenching on cars and hope to restore on someday. I like all kinds of cars, but 90s Japanese sports cars have a special place in my heart. Perhaps one non-vanilla interest I have is in flipping butterfly knives, though I'm not particularly good at it.
I speak and read Russian and Ukranian, though my Ukranian is quite rusty since I haven't used it in years. I can write in both to an acceptable degree, but once again, it has been a while since I've done it.
It's hard to describe what kind of person I am without editorial obfuscation, but I'm quite a reserved person, not very social or outgoing, don't like to draw attention to myself, and don't do well with confrontations. I'm not a fan of this label since it's thrown around meaninglessly, but I suppose I am shy at times and I do take quite some time to warm up to people I meet, but I generally try to be pleasant and agreeable. My online presence isn't quite the same, but I like to think that generally, I'm just a less awkward and reserved version of my real self when I'm online.
Sorry for the long essay, but I hope I was able to paint a clear enough picture. Also note the length because I find that typical of my posts. |
