I thought of making a review for this, but I wouldn't be able to do it justice as I am very biased because I enjoyed it thoroughly, but I can't write a review based on enjoyment only. So here I am!
With the last chapter, I can honestly say that this was one of the weirdest rides I had with Hwang Mi Ri's works. As always, story and characters are terrible, but SOMEHOW she managed to put so many random twists and so many different things that it just made sense in this chaos of a plot. The lack of gangsters is veeeeery welcome and the premise was actually interesting this time, although horrible executed, as always, but it kinda felt like a movie on a budget; the ideas were there but not the proper tools so you get a variety of information and action but so disjointed.
If we ignore the execution, the pacing and everything else that makes a good story, it had some pretty nice ideas. For once, the romance was remotely realistic with a girl finding herself falling out of love with her boyfriend and thinking someone else is the one, but oh no, regrets come kicking in. The use of flashbacks was very successful in my opinion; there was an abundance of them and it just made the relationship seem real and not as shallow as a puddle like in other works and for once I could relate.
Then, everything started escalating rapidly as time travel comes into play and she manages to fail every time and almost get herself killed, then we learn there's going to be meteorites hitting Earth and the guy from the future who somehow fell in love with the main girl in basically 1 day wanted to be with her, then broke up with her to help her win her ex back because he wanted to bring back to the future the missing skeletons of them... Then, as everything goes well, he decides to fudge it all, kill the ex (and by the way, that phone call was really sweet, I shed tears) and try to convince her that escaping in an alternate universe is the best idea ever and that in no way is he a murderer since the guy was planned to die either way some days later. Of course, that will not work, so the future guy decides to let her go in a universe that the ex is living and there will be no meteors, but since he won't have her, he decides to stay in the doomed universe and die, but not before leaving a present for his girl friend. If this isn't a wild ride, what is?!
I can't believe how immersed in it I actually was. It just managed to hit all the right buttons even though everything was really bad hahaha. Nothing made sense, but somehow everything did! I find myself feeling sad over the fact that I will probably not find another work of hers that just hits the spot and I've already read a lot of them. |
