| No, it's just the context. Shizu says "Kino-kun" at first because he thought Kino was a boy, then switches to "Kino-san" after the dog tells him she's a girl. |

I don't think that is the case, Kino didn't know the woman until after what had happened. I believe that is the reason why she is so angry and throwing those rocks. |

| It is also possible that Kino got tricked by her own view on the world: "The world is not beautiful, therefore it is". This country was by no aspect a beautiful country, so therefore it was, one could say. That could explain Kino's anger to some extent, an anger towards herself because she didn't see anything coming thanks to her own conceptions of the world. |
| This episode was poorly elaborated in this adaptation compared to the original, although it does clarify some things that were left unanswered in the original. I recommend watching the original for a different perspective. The Widow: In the original, there were more allusions towards her reasons for describing the country as a 'beautiful' country. In this adaptation, there were almost none, so we're free to speculate. Husband murder plot sounds good, although it doesn't really explain why she would recommend Kino to go there. Revenge, then? But it's unlikely she could have known Kino's skill from mere chance encounters. The dog: Yeah, the dog just told the prince Kino was a girl. This was very very subtle in the original series, so I'm actually glad this adaptation cleared up what the dog said after 14 years. |
