This episode was really great! My favorite so far of this series. The old man's story made me cry and it was great to see continuity. And of course HO-OH appearing was amazing!

This was a really good episode!! I really liked it! He had already given up but then he finally got to see what he wanted for a long time! Loved it!

Shed a tear at the end~

Maybe this is my favorite Pokemon anime so far. But XY was also pretty good.

That old man finally seeing Ho-oh made me emotional, it really must hurt to chase after something for so long without reaching the end, but with the help of Ash, Gou, and his grandson, he could finally see it.

Honestly impressed with how this season is handling those individual episodes.

Gou's 100% Catch rate Hack is kinda pissing me off. Ban pls he's using mods.

Ash already battled ho-oh , why doesn't he mention it. what's the point in movies if it's not cannon lol.

So ash mentioned his past, but yet they didn't bring back May, Dawn or any of his old Pokemon? Ash said he wanted to become a Pokemon master but yet he hasn't done anything so hard. The old Ash would of gone to galar immediately after hearing about it. But this Ash just goes "Cool" and moves on

AT LAST! Finally Ash remembered something from the past, it has been ambiguous since the exhibition of his past medals and the Alola trophy xD

Not a huge fan, it was cool to see Ash’s flashback. This was just another filler episode but without team rocket this time. Also, Go catching Pokémon is something I always look forward to when watching a new Pokémon episode.

A solid episode. Old man's story was kind of emotional. And I love that only the old man got to see Ho-oh and no one else because he was trying for decades. This individual stories are looking great.

Kurio's grandfather spent his life looking for Houou, and almost gave it up until his grandson, Satoshi and Gou inspired him to try again. He was also rewarded with a glimpse of Houou, and it was kind of moving. It's just a pity that Satoshi, Gou, and Kurio themselves couldn't get a glimpse as well. Muma and Odoshishi's illusions were quite something too. And it was nice to see that moment from the beginning animated again. Oh, and the message that there are no shortcuts to make your dreams come true was nice too. It's over if you give up after all.

Agreed. I feel like his 100% catch rate is to save time on some major plot they're going to introduce us to.

Pretty nice story but I couldn't care less. Stop wasting time and start the main story already unless they are planning on doing this sh** the entire season.

Except apparently Ash even forgot about anything to do with Ecruteak city so there's no way that follows anything up from Johto.

Why do you feel the need that everything needs to be mentioned?? Ash already stated he has seen Ho-oh before, so anything else prior that should have been mentioned extra would be very mundane.

I really enjoyed this episode, it was really heartwarming!

I was a little weary about the structure of this series compared to the ones of the past, but i'm really enjoying it. Sure some arent as good as others like last weeks, but this one was gold!

I guess Gou is going to collect every single Pokemon, which is going to be really cool to see!

Really nice episode. A man refinding his faith in Ho-Ho. Grumpy old man to happy man. And the son was so nice. Ho-Ho is such a good pokemon too. I like the reference to episode 1

Well to be fair Ash didn't actually enter the Bell Tower (Tin Tower as it was called in the earlier episodes) in Johto; he only saw it from the outside back then. He entered the Burned Tower when he first visited Ecruteak, though.

once they said ho-oh i saw it in ash face, and waited for them to mention it, and he did mention his encounter in first episode of the whole series!

now as for the episode, i'm confused if it was rather normal filler episode or legendary episode, probably OLM meant for both.

I'm tired of Gou catching all pokemons he meet without any effort. I always thought you have to weaken the pokemon to be able to catch them.

RANT WARNING: (Love the series but this episode triggered me for some reason.)

Original Pokemon:

Someone throws a Pokeball and fails to catch a Pokemon.

Ash (or someone else): You can't just catch a Pokemon by throwing a Pokeball. You have to battle it first.

Modern Day:

Goh throws a Pokeball and catches a Pokemon instantly.

"THAT WAS AMAZING GOH!" (Because not just anyone in this world can throw a Pokeball to catch a Pokemon. Wait...)

It would be one thing if that only worked on small Pokemon like Weedle or Goh used the Arceus style and caught them with a surprise rear attack but it feels like the writers got lazy and rewrote the Pokemon to not care. Dear writers. Even if you can't show multiple battles due to time constraints, it is possible to show the end of battles to show Goh put in some effort. Not only does this break previous world-building on so many levels, it makes Ash look worse by showing us (once again) that Ash could have caught so many more Pokemon (which feels more like bad/lazy writing than because of Ash himself). I like Goh but the character belongs in a different continuity. He could have been a protagonist of a Pokemon Go spinoff.

Dear writers (again): I know things have changed since Ash announced he wanted to be a Pokemon Master in the Indigo League but please stop. No matter how loud Ash yells, it doesn't fool us into thinking there is currently a clear path for 'Ash becoming a Pokemon Master'. Either give the boy a different goal or redefine what a Pokemon Master is. It's PAINFUL to have to pretend that Ash is still moving towards this 'obtainable goal.'

Good parts of the episode: Liked the old man's story and happy that Ash remembered he saw Ho Oh. (Kind of worrying that so many of us are excited at the thought of the show maintaining continuity but I'll stop now.)

Alright Goh, enough with the 100% catch rate.
We went from Ash spending entire episodes trying to battle and convince Pokemon to join him to this lol.

Was nice seeing Ash remember his start with seeing Ho-oh, at last the old man was finally able to see it again as well!

I didn't expected that ending.
I know it's supposed to promote pokemon go but it still annoys me.
