I've added stuff off the top of my head. xD Please Chiibi, when you get a chance, consider adding the following titles as well: Angel Cop and Chika Gentou Gekiga: Shoujo Tsubaki. The first is a cyberpunk conspiracy thriller OVA from the late 80s to early 90s that's part of the "splatter" subgenre considered ultra-violent and profane for gratuitous violence and nudity. It has a very controversial legacy among those who know it exists and have seen it. The dubbed version is notoriously taken as a joke/unintentional comedy because the audio is very hammy of that style of the time and just substituted in with a bunch of curse words over the dialogue. And the original Japanese audio is even more controversial and is still censored to this day on many of the online and DVD releases (heard a Blu-Ray that's uncensored finally came out in the last year or so though) because it deals with an international conspiracy that's part of the story and based on a very inflammatory real world geopolitical topic. Some versions actually have the original Japanese audio but with deliberately incorrect/censored English subtitles. The second is a historical horror in the vein of....Mononoke I suppose? (Only other prominent anime I can think which combines those). But more grimy in the "rotten world" sense bordering on exploitative/snuff and emotionally taxing. The creator famously tried to disown it and it was considered possibly lost for a while but then resurfaced when those from other countries still had copies. I recently uploaded a version to a film-sharing website and was met with a comment about it only being for sickos who like seeing little girls tortured. |

Oh yeah, I researched ALL about Tsubaki because I was curious about all the controversy surrounding it. xD NOT brave enough to watch it...I think I'd be pretty disturbed by what I've read about it. I'm really quite squeamish though. That probably sounds ironic for THIS club owner to say but basically "some stuff bothers me and some stuff doesn't". |

Nah, everyone has their own reasons behind their tastes and need not justify it. I'm just completely desensitized at this point because I got into horror films pretty obsessively at 10 years-old and have been watching films and shows with strong content ever since. Plus I'm a news/history junkie and there's so much vicious real world stuff going on basically 24/7 and always has that knowledge of it can make you effectively immune. The only thing I tend not to watch is most pornography (including anime pornography - hentai), but that's not because of either disgust or any ethical objections. I'm just not interested in it. In any event, I may and already have recommended stuff that I may not necessarily love myself. It's all about supporting the right of the content to exist, as you've said, and allowing others access to what they love, regardless of what anyone else happens to think about it. And I can sympathize because I'd be fucking livid if anyone tried to take my dear Koi Kaze away from me. It would be a grayer world for me and I can't accept that.... |
