Since they are capable of jumping through spacetime to another planet likely in somewhere distant in the Universe, why did they need Lala-Ru when they could have taken a ton of water from Earth? They could even take kilotons of salt water and filter it themselves without even needing to trade for it. Am I missing something?

Maybe they didn't know there was anything like seas on Earth. Maybe the teleportation could only move limited mass. Maybe it cost too much energy to be used for anything but the occasional jumps of a few people and robots in search of Lala Ru. Maybe it was all about the dictator's ego: Lala Ru refused to cooperate with him, she ran away, she set a bad example; she had to be recaptured and her defiance broken. Maybe the dictator was simply stupid - and if not, then he was still nuts and couldn't be expected to make reasonable decisions.

The true mystery lies elsewhere: how did Hamdo acquire and maintain Abelia's loyalty? Without her, Hellywood would colapse onto itself, as Hamdo wasn't fit for ruling. Abelia's motivations were never explained and it really annoys me. xD

Ahh this is exactly what I think too when I watch (I just finish this today) (●__●).

But then again, I was thinking that-- maybe it put a lot of works to get water from other planet... or it might not end very well like how Shu arrive in there.

It's like thinking why the Hamdo not going to other dimension in the first place. So the teleport machine might not work fantastically XD.

Anyw about about Abelia... lol I thought she simply love Hamdo. And by the end, she just realize that; the man ain't worth it ╮(─▽─)╭ //heh.

I suppose you're right, she probably loved him, though God knows why. He was incompetent as a ruler, mistreated her and obviously only cared about world domination and himself. Not exactly a crush material.^^ I would buy it if there was some sort of a backstory to their relationship or if it was shown Abelia was a power-hungry nitwit like him, but as there's no such justification it just bothers me to no end. Even more so than Shu's plot armor and that's saying something.^^

The way I understood it, (it's been a while mind you) Abelia was forced to play the dictator game along with Hamdo. She was second in command and had a lot of power, but only because he appointed her as such. Without Hamdo ruling with fear and an iron fist, she's just another mook in a sudden power vacuum concerning the worlds most powerful super weapon. No doubt, if Hamdo were to kick the bucket, she would instantly have a target on her back by any number of other officers that existed in hellywood's hierarchy, so she did everything in her power to maintain that shaky system of power. Considering how the themes of the anime are things such as the loss of innocence and hope, the madness caused by power, and despair eating away at morals, I think it is a reasonable conclusion.

Saddam Hussein and Muammar Gaddagi were literal Hamdos, they had battalions of competent reasonable Abelias giving them the Ability to stay atop of Iraq and Libya... driving off a cliff in slowmo over decades just to ditch the backseat driver right after the last wheel stops touching the ground.

The choice of names was really on point by the way...

Acc to most viewers they are not traveling to another planet, they can just travel to past(i.e story is taking place in future earth millions year from now and water is scarced). So it doesn't make sense to steal water from past earth.
It is shocking to find how many people do not believe they can learn, and how many more believe learning to be difficult.

The way I understood it, Abelia changed into compelled to play the dictator recreation at the side of Hamdo. She was second in command and had plenty of electricity, but simplest due to the fact he appointed her as such. Without Hamdo ruling with fear and an iron fist, she's just some other mook in a unexpected energy vacuum concerning the worlds maximum powerful first rate weapon to use electric tankless water heater.
