Shinjuku Swan loves these recontextualizing moments, where upon seeing the ending of an arc, we can look back at the entire thing in a new light. I think every single arc has had this draw to it, and it makes it a delight to reread the series with the climaxes in mind.

The twist is that, while many of us already believe Seki was a real loyal brother, it wasn't just that he didn't betray Burst, rather he betrayed Taki instead. He betrayed a childhood friend of which he held a 10-year promise with. It is a declaration of his loyalty! For he is the person we could reasonably understand betraying Burst but he refused to! Seeing Tachuhiko’s reaction to slowly realizing the truth, from hesitant questioning, to shock, to letting out a relieved giggle upon seeing that the faith in one of the men he most respects paid off was a beautiful reminder of why both of these boys are two of my favourite characters, period. It made me feel really warm and good. Both of these guys are inspirations to me, and their slow burning bond has been an absolute treat.

To make this conclusion one of their bromance put a huge smile on my face. Supposedly everything Taki did has been to get Seki back, it will certainly make the jail scene all the more interesting on a second read, and the response that he got from Taki seemed to prove everything. He started to break down in a way we've never seen before and Seki looked through him at Tatsuhiko instead. Putting on the mask of his usual bully-self made his sombre request that Tatsuhiko we'll have to save himself because he's not in Burst anymore all the more pressing, something Tatsuhiko absolutely picked up on. With this, it seems to me that Seki is making an all-out gamble, a bet that his loyalty to Burst was well spent- embodied in Tatsuhiko. An uncharacteristically shounen finish, two ideals battling out with fists up in the sky. Although with the smile Seki gave reflecting on their past together, I do think Seki feels fondly of those times too. Wakui Ken has always been consistent at creating these final set pieces full of heart and soul.

I also wanted to address how this calls back to Mako’s reminiscing on the dream that had fallen apart. I don't really know what to draw as a conclusion from the similarity and Mako’s memory and Seki’s current reality, but I do think it is meaningful to mention. My friend's mind immediately jumped to the person speaking to Mako being Taki or Seki which could also fit the criteria of a dream falling apart.
