| I got the impression the series was cut short in some way, honestly. Perhaps the author miscalculated how many chapters would be needed to wrap things up. Personally I'm just happy how it all ends with everyone having lunch together. That's all it needed to do for me to be satisfied. Regarding the powerlevels and stuff, this is pure speculation on my part, but I got the impression that in the skyscraper dimension, people with some sort of hole in their heart are those who get strongest (at least that's how I interpreted this one scene in her flashback where we see that she was actually very lonely as a kid and hanging out with her brother was one of the few moments where she felt otherwise). The catch being, to the skyscraper dimension's system, it doesn't matter what one's reasoning for it is; so the strongest person can either be someone like Mayuko who's terribly jaded and hates the world but still has plenty of good left in her, or someone like Juo who's just a complete nihilist. It's kinda easy to miss because of how many characters in the cast come off really gentle or cheerful and we only really see the "hole in their heart" through some random flashback (as was the case with Kuon, for example). Regarding the sequel, without delving into major spoilers, it does explain some bits of lore about the world, yes, and Yuri and co. do reappear, but in a weird way, as a core part of the sequel is introducing Evil Yuri and not telling you if that's her or not for several dozen chapters or so. |
