THIS IS A MANGA ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS ANYTHING BEYOND THIS CHAPTER.
----------------------------------------
I put off reading this chapter all week as I've been focused on other things but seeing that a new chapter should come out later today (and after some emotional ramblings over how much I appreciate Tatsuhiko as an inspiration), I decided to get to this one.

Ambition
There are two plot lines which caught my attention, and the first is a discussion over Tatsuhiko's idea of ambition. Chapter one reveals his naive fantasy about becoming a famous and competent elite. One could easily read this as setting up his ideal when it comes to ambition from the first pages. Following that, he was immediately starstruck when he saw Mako's conviction for his work. After fumbling around for a while, he became a scout with his entire heart; he aimed to continue working hard and as we see later, become an executive. An iconic moment which is impossible to ignore when discussing this is in chapter 12, when asked why he's in Burst, Tatsuhiko responds:
I don't know if I would call it chasing something or a target but the first time I met Mako, he said to me: "I live for this job." I still can't say it now but I want to become a man that can say things like that.

I haven't given this proper discussion, I've accepted it naturally, associating this drive as conviction, resolve, and most importantly a desire for a greater purpose of which will bear results when faced with hard work. Accepting that, I put it behind me.

Yet, that doesn't seem right because this arc is largely exploring this very concept. We have the uncharacteristic moment where Tatsuhiko quits Burst. It felt really bad to read! Then following that, he immediately falls in love with the "competent and famous elite" Shirota, as if asking for disillusionment. And now this conversation with Akemi… Hearing a supposed lack of drive to be the best, Tatsuhiko challenged him, straight for the throat, perhaps the first time he's being so confrontational with Akemi.

He stepped away, seeming frustrated and perplexed, asking why he would become a host if not to become the number one. In this context, I couldn't help but see this as a moment of self-discovery from Tatsuhiko, similar to when he asks how people became rotten(see Haraki or Yamashiro). One coming from a lack of understanding and perhaps worry that he could become like them. Yet, I also can't help but think about the fact that losing the executive position was the excuseTatsuhiko used for quitting and here we have the exact opposite in Akemi.

Now, I do not have a great conclusion for this huge writing over Tatsuhiko's concept of ambition and purpose, but I find it absolutely fascinating and I think it may change the way he sees himself and Burst when he inevitably joins back.

The Conspiracy
We now know that Seera is favoured by and was hand picked from a mysterious, inevitably rich owner who Francois has never met. Following this, the representative Aoi Kinji framed Tatsuhiko, forcing him into debt. All evocative of the Yamikin arc with the mysterious owner, Momozuka, and the framing of Tatsuhiko. Now that the gears are turning I have to wonder if Tatsuhiko's recruitment was no coincidence.

His "tired of this shit" face at the end got a laugh out of me. I am too, brother. This world is full of scum!
