Posting this knowing full well it probably won't get any traction or replies because of how niche and inconsequential it is to care about a children's TV show, but I find it really hard to believe this many people actually watched this specific version of Doraemon that's pretty much lost media at this point with the majority of episodes completely gone, at least to the extent that people are still adding it to their lists somewhat frequently. Really feel like most people actually grew up with the 1979 or 2005 anime, saw one called Doraemon, and called it a day. As petty as it is it kinda bugs me that there are potentially people who have this on their list despite not watching it, albeit not intentional.

Again, such a inconsequential thing to talk about, and I doubt many others (if any at all) care. If anyone does end up seeing this I'll reply (given I get a notification, not sure how that works exactly) for as long as this thread is up and I'm still on this site.

I was thinking the same. Unless you were alive around the time it aired (1970s) it's impossible to have completed this. Like you said most likely the people who have it on their list watched Doraemon as a child, saw this and assumed it was what they had watched. As silly as it is It bugs the hell out of me that I'll never be able to watch it.

For sure. I mean... it's literally impossible to find and watch a single episode of this.

I'm pretty sure almost all of the 11k completions are from people who got confused with the 1979 version.

Another less-common way people could have completed is that they watched the small bits and pieces of audio and visuals that were saved and called it "completed" even though there's hardly anything out there.

It's the same for me. The knowledge that there's just this version of Doraemon that once existed without a second thought casually that almost doesn't anymore is insanely upsetting to me for some reason. Honestly, the bits and samples still alive not being available for public view is just as frustrating and I honestly do wish I could see any of this specific Doraemon, if at all.

Yeah... which is why as someone who takes interest in the most inconsequential of things the fact that this show's statistics are always gonna be scuffed kinda irks me. Hell, I even saw someone go "It's all Doraemon, it doesn't matter which one it is" which bugged me more than it honestly should have. It almost feels like any person I see with this on their favorites is like taunting me.

I mean, it would definitely be great if these people have seen it - the more people who somehow remember this piece of lost media the better. However, a bunch of now 40yo's come on to MAL to put their childhood show on here just doesn't seem plausible to me, unfortunately.
I guess this is where we're at now.

I'm assuming all the episodes in it were remade in the 1979 anime but saying "It's all the same" is annoying.

This is actually quite cool to hear, is there any chance you might still have this dvd? Honestly if there's any footage of this still existing out there it'd be certainly an interesting find.

Are you sure you aren't talking about 1979 version? Doraemon 1973 never even air outside Japan let alone a dub lol.

MAL himself wrote that this series was lost. I wonder why they leave the option to add to the list. It had to be on the site only as a historical record, because the chance of someone using MAL who lives in Japan and lived in the 70s, is basically 0%.

If you can find this DVD of the Cantonese dub, you should definitely upload it online somewhere. While it's not the original, it's better than nothing.

It is literally the most popular Anime in my country. Almost every kid who grew up in 90s and 2000s have watched this.

Although majority of the footage is lost but I still have some memories from my childhood. I was at least 6-8 years when I watched the oldest version.

Edit: Maybe ManWild is right, I might have mistaken it with 1979 version.

I’ve seen a lot of anime on here with no chance of resurfacing and people said they completed it. Though this one has a chance of being found, or at least most of it being uploaded online. It’s probably just people thinking they’re funny by saying they finished a lost anime. They could’ve mixed it up with the 1979 version but even that I have no clue how they would finish that series

@AverageRiceFan

Some say they have completed both the 1973 and 1979 version. Yet when I contact them it seems they are simply lying, even their knowledge of the 1979 version is usually suspect (seeing as there over 1700 episodes and many are also quite hard to find).

The simplest and most obvious answer is people lie about what anime they have completed, or they think 'I saw a lot of Doraemon as a kid, so I will just say I completed it.

@HigherLvLThinker

Then you should really remove it from the completed list.
