Ive been watching this anime with my friends and have been dissapointed- although we are still watching due to interesting concept. I think part of our frustration is the horror that is built up throughout each episode (ep 3 and 4 are decent examples of this) using atmospheric tension is then made to dissapear in the second half of each episode and this seems to happen very quickly. With conclusions that dont match threatening atmosphere they create so well.
I havent read the source material but it seems a lot of people are saying that this adaptation has been rushed. Are my feelings about how each episode ends due to the rushed nature of the show or is it just my friends and I(mainly me) being nit-picky.
Thanks for any response and my apologies if this is incorrect use of discussion threads as this is the first time ive felt like making one.

i hadn't thought about it like that before, but i totally agree. watching ep 1 i thought the humor was well placed, but looking back on everything i've watched so far(only eps 1 and 2, dont @ me), i wish they'd stuck with the serious tone + horror more consistently, because like you said, it was built up so well only to inevitably fall though.

The manga and novel keeps the tone quite consistent through the whole of each of the arcs. The adaptation just isn't that great with it's tone, and way too much is skipped hell they just casually skipped a whole arc in the anime. Idk if they will get better with more episode (doubt it).

Well, I'll just drop this show and read the novels today. I was thinking that the show seems good nut something it's off, after read a couple of comments I learned that they skipped a lot of content.

This thread was made a month ago but its still holding true. Strong starts, weak ends.

I've been feeling that something's "off" for a few episodes now, and not in a good way. I think it's because the show started strong and the Otherside was mysterious and dangerous, but after Sorawo's eye and Toriko's hand were affected they haven't really suffered anymore damage.

There's also a strange shift in tone from these slice-of-life parts to the Otherside ones, and it's almost as if the characters don't really care about the Otherside that much despite being in mortal peril (theoretically, they can slip into it anytime) and seeing people die in there with their own eyes (the guy looking for his wife).

I think the closest these recent episodes have been to capturing the mystery and tension of the start, was the scene with the giant creature on the train tracks, and then the train. I wish there were more scenes of exploring the Otherside, the dialogue could be shifted over to them instead of taking place in a boring city background.

Honestly, while this is more on about the first half of each episode, but I might as well say it here. As the first few episodes to me, were really good when it comes to keeping that tension, and the sudden shift towards not caring wasn't so bad, and it made me like this show, and consider checking out the Manga at some point.

But I would say the middle part of the series in terms of it's episodes is where this really stands strong. It's why I'm posting this comment here on this topic. This show had a strong start, but mid way in, it went shit, though will say I have enjoyed the past two episodes.
