Anime and manga are based on Arkadij Natanovič's novel "Roadside Picnic" (thus the name "Otherside Picnic").
It's sbout two girls venturing into bizzare realm or dimension known as Otherside in order to collect various items and artifacts with unusual properties in order to cash them in.
For me it is especially amazing anime, because I am a huge fan of STALKER video game series, which are also inspired by the same novel. Both also share a lot of themes like glitches/anomalies serving as traps and artifacts as valuable treasure. I recommend both.

Long story short, there’s a parallel world where it’s rules aren’t the same as ours. In this world folklores, internet creepypastas and so on are alive and do exactly what the rumour make them to do. The girls are only there being they’re trying to find toriko (the blonde one) friend who’s gone missing. Sorawo (brown hair) presumably went there to have peace from her life - from the first episode - but she’s intrigued by toriko so follows her. I made a #DSOT video on my channel, linked below that goes through it in under 60 seconds so give it a watch if you have time. If not, what I’ve written is it paraphrased. Hope this helps! Link is https://youtu.be/mxyDiNPo1cs I believe, as I’m on phone lol

If I understand it correctly the other people also know about these other dimensions and want to collect and sell artifacts right?

Yes, there are other people and are venturing there for various reasons. In anime we already have seen a man, who went there searching for his wife and whole military squadron.

Overall premise is that two girls meet in another, parallel, world that they call the Otherside, which if filled dangers that mirror internet lore and urban legends. One is in it to find a friends, the other is in it for the girl trying to find her friend (and occasionally money, but it actually plays a very small factor in it, so far at least).

It's sci-fi, it's mystery, it's adventure, it's slightly horror, and it's yuri. It's based on a lot of Japanese internet creepypasta and urban legends, and also very heavily inspired by the Russian novel Roadside Picnic. If any of that is interesting, I would say check it out (though I recommend the manga or novels over the anime).
