It's kind of an understatement that the fights are underwhelming. I wasn't expecting like studio bones level fights or wit studios hype animation but this show didn't deliver in any way when it came to the action.
The hand to hand stuff looks very good and it's honestly very jarring they are nicely shot and choreographed compared to the gunfights that look horrible and are worse shot then a bad 70s cop movie.

Please tell me I'm not the only person who thinks this

I guess they don't have budget and time for that.

The series keeps using new locations and characters. In animation, that takes lots of resources. I wouldn't be surprised if they had to cut back in other aspects, like fights.

That is true but then why do the hand to hand stuff look pretty good (yes ik we have only seen two) it just seems like bad budget mangement

I think it's more about exploring and experiencing the supernatural. The lack of epic action we see so often in shounen is something I can forgive.
Ryuk is somewhat relatable

Tbh, I never cared about that stuff. You may be right in what ur saying, but it doesn't impact my enjoyability of the show as a whole.

You're not the only one. The animation is underwhelming and I feel like the studio wasn't capable to take on this project. Throughout the series, I noticed that they had to take a lot of shortcut in animation and it shows. Stiff animation, animation inconsistencies (Episode 10 is the most glaring one) and over-usage of CGI.

The show's story and its characters are really good though. Both aspects are honestly a breath of fresh air (coming from someone who's been watching anime for close to 6 years) but it's such a shame that I can't say the same thing about the animation

Even A-1 Pictures would have made this show look really good.
