Some characters do sound a bit off, but it might be more because of the fact we already associated a voice for them, and that didn't remain in the English dub. But you gotta remember that English dubbing is still a very small industry with recycled actors, so I think the issue your finding is less "they have no talent" and more "they're playing roles they aren't fit for". It's still in its infancy, and of course a good sound director can increase their range. I think my biggest issue with English dubbing is when it comes to countryside characters. It's the same issue of "too few talent to choose from", but hearing a fake Southern accent is still pretty rough on the ears. Sadly, I'm not nearly well-versed enough (I most likely never will be) in Japanese to pick up different dialects, as they have FAR more. |
| After id gotten over the headache of reading the subtitles and listening to the english dub at the same time i can also say i found it funny. I havent watched a dub in a while, so i have some pointers for the voice lines, such as some lines seemed to have a break halfway through to allow the lip flaps to catch up (which i know cant be changed) but it messed with the flow and delivery a bit. I can say though i was surprised with the array of British voices lmao i did enjoy it and it definitely was one of the better dubs ive heard recently, but it also needs a little work ^-^ However if someone told me i HAD to watch the dub i wouldnt complain, id probably happily watch it just to hear Rufus’ voice again |
