Well I never read manga or LN so I can't judge the pacing but every words used in the discussion episode was somehow important and helped me understanding the world building of the world. Except some moments of comedy which was also important for egg IQ teens to keep engaged.
You can relate Rimuru's power to USA which used Soft Power and Hard Power to keep the world peace being the superpower.
And you as a politics geek also know that how USA's bases, pacts and military which is top class keeps peace in the world.
And as imbalance of power is occurring slowly between USA and China, world peace is in danger and they are about to attack on Taiwan and nearby countries.
I will give kudos to the author, how well he portrayed the real world Geo Politics in his world.
But I know some people will not find it interesting because of this, they just want action and bad ass dialogues.
As you said, you are also a GeoPolitics geek, so what's your reason for not liking this season where they expanded the world more??
And undoubtly sonny boy is one of the best in the season
And please; I don't want a childish discussion so I hope intellectual reply from you
Nahh don't worry, I'll keep the discussion chill. I just got a little annoyed by you calling me inmature teen xD.
The problem I have with this season, and more with this episode, is that it looks and feels like cheaply produced. I'm a worldbuilding nerd in general, and I love thinking about facts and everything about fictional worlds (my favourite anime/manga is Made in Abyss due to the huge worldbuilding potential that it has), so theoretically, I should love this season of Tensura. Also my favourite parts of the first season are the ones where they negociate and discuss about the relationships between the Tempest nation and other countries.
But appart from worldbuilding, I'm a production/cinematography/animation nerd. Basically, I love the technical stuff that surrounds anime, and this season is really lacking in this department. The drawings seem worse than before, movement is clunkier than in other seasons, most of the episodes are literally PowerPoints, and I'm meaning this in the bad way... I don't know, it seems like they don't care and just took a dialogue/exposition heavy arc and didn't work on it to make it feel different, and just took images from the manga, colored them and added some movement from time to time.
There are lots of ways to make a dialogue heavy episode shine, by using good cinematography, good angles, as you said if there is a lot of exposition give charts, graphs, smaller animations that help visually identify what they are talking about, basically little elements to give your brain more ways to understand what they are talking about while also keeping you entertained due to the way they explain it (Dr. Stone for example excells at this department). But in this season, they just went for talking, talking, talking... And not with interesting angles, drawings, lighting... nope, just talking.
The problem I'm having is that one, it feels poorly/cheaply produced, thats why I'm not liking it xD
