I loved the first season a ton, but it seems like there are about 20 steps to watching the third season, from playing all of the games to watching in a certain order (because the 3rd season is actually two related intertwining arcs or something). And it also seems like the 3rd season won't be the same as far as "solve mystery, find killer".

Anyways, should I attempt to watch the 3rd season? Will I get any enjoyment out of it if I haven't played the games? And no, I won't be playing the games, sorry

The games are so amazing, I really recommend that, I was skeptical at first as well. Just watching no commentary game playes on YT is totally fine, I did that too. They are so good, I wnanna play them again someday

As for the question, no, oh hell no, don't watch 3rd season if you haven't played the games. That's like starting to watch Sword Art Online with 3rd season, it's just gonna be confusing af. I don't know why they adapted the first game Danganronpa but didn't adapt the 2nd game and went to animate a sequel to 2nd game, but yeah, just don't do it.

First off the third season is basically watching 2 shows at the same time arc after arc as you already know so episode 1 then 1 then 2 then 2 ECT.

for the secound game personally I am waiting for December 3rd for it to be released on the switch at which point I will play game 2 then watch the rest of the anime. Personally I'm playing the game because I also WANT TO PLAY but if u don't wanna spend money on the game go to YouTube and watch a walk through or sumat on the sedound game and there ya go you are caught up and can now watch season 3. But I suppose that doesn't answer your question realy huh? So in simple terms YES I WOULD TOTALLY TAKE THE TIME TO WATCH

Future and Despair arcs don't really work without playing Danganronpa 2 so no it's not worth watching.

Update: I watched a 30 minute synopsis of game 2, which kind of sucks because I was hoping to save it and play it later, but I think I get the general gist of the plot

what i got from it (that seemed important)

let me know if i missed anything

i watched future and despair arc after watching first season without any knowledge about danganronpa 2 and ngl it was kinda confusing and didn’t enjoy it that much. not a big fan of the franchise though so don’t mind me.

The only reason the anime adaptation was made was because the second game was about to release and they wanted it to sell better.

Other season are not that good.. there are excessive killing and a plot which doesn't make any sense
Still you can watch if you are curious (like Chitanda Eru)

I love the danganrompa anime series, so watch the following.
-Season 1 (normal arc)
-Season 2 (future/despair arc) you basically watch 1 episode of future and then the first episode of despair, and keep alternating episodes. Like episode 2 future and episode 2 despair, and keep on going. The future arc is kinda like the first season. But to me these two arcs were better than the first one.
-Season 3 (hope are) which is one episode.

To me this order is great and it quickly became one of my favorite anime.

Tbh I only watched the anime, all three seasons, and it was really easy to follow, it was not confusing in the slightest. I think you can get most of the story from the anime.

same opinion like this user maybe games are amazing or whatever but believe me if you only wants to watch anime then just watch it theres no need to play the game and just watch hope and despair arc episode alternately as they are aired (if available can watch on muse Asia YouTube platform it's available in order) and you will enjoy the whole series.. it's totally worth it..

If you haven't played the games then it's just completely illegible, since so much of it relies on information and characters from DR2 (and a little from UDG). You may be able to get a tiny bit of enjoyment seeing the survivors of DR1 in the Future arc, but even then that's at most less than half of DR3's content.

For the record, the order is DR1 -> DR2 -> UDG -> DR3 Future & Despair Arcs (alternating episodes, starting with Future) -> DR3 Hope Arc -> DR3 OVAs -> DRV3 -> DRS.
Well I for one already loved Lain.

Yes. It is.
Playing Danganronpa 2: Goodbye despair is going to be rewarding as it is a visual novel game by itself. After that watching the anime will give you closure which you will be left wanting once you complete the game. Also the watch order of the anime is not that tough, Muse Asia has a playlist with the right order so you can auto-play on YouTube. However if you have no plans to play DR2 or watch the gameplay then watching the anime would be pointless cause a lot of information would be missing in between.
