viewing order?

new to series, is it split up as ‘seasons’ between characters kaiji/akagi so that they’re unrelated? theres no prequel listed but release dates make me think i should watch akagi first - although i’ve no real interest in mahjong so i’d rather start here. or is the artstyle the only common thread between titles and i’m overthinking it?

Akagi is another serie from the same author. Watch this season and then s2 for Kaiji. If you want more, there’s the manga
