| See it exactly the opposite - the movie was great and the series was just not my type of show. In the movie I at least somewhat liked the characters and the story was more serious and emotional and you also get way more world building. All aspects that were rather lacking in the series. As far as the series is concerned I have to say that Mondaiji is the better NGNL. |

| The movie was better than anime in my opinion. It more more plot focused and lesser fan service. both are good, but series have too much fan service. And movies ending was just too much impactful |

How does me not liking the series (didn't really mention it being boring) - affect me understanding the story? I understood it just fine. It's just that I mainly didn't like the characters in the series and found a lot of their antics as not that funny and actually oftentimes quite mean-spirited. And I was severely disappointed by the rather limited focus of the series. For a story that's about going to another world that's supposedly works on different rules where everything is solved by games you actually saw very little of the world itself and how these rules actually impacted the people, society at large, etc. That's why I said I liked Mondaiji more because that one has basically the same set up as NGNL but actually gives considerable focus to these aspects. |

| This movie was so incredibly average to me. The story was alright, just really slow and boring. And that characters are even less interesting than the ones in the original series. It was honestly hard to keep track watching it and know whats going on |

| Just saw this movie today. I never saw the original show. As its own movie, I think its bad because it has a lot of unearned emotionallity. As a viewer, I didnt care about any of the characters. At the start when the dad dies after MC sends him to distract the monster. We go back to the daughter to show her doing a thing to show her connection to the dad. Dad dies, characters come back and MC tells the gril that her dad is actually not dad but ded. Instead of building or writing a sympathetic charcter with the dad or daughter so we can actually feel bad for them, the music is ramped up to make you feel bad by association because the writing is bad. The rest of the movie follows this pattern. We dont spend enough time with any of these animated buttholes to know how they are so we care enough about them. The viewer has to do all the carrying of the climaxes of the show by assuming so much of what we see and dont see on screen. If I have to make logical leaps to piece together an unexplained backstory of how these characters are interconnected, why they care for each other, why the world matters, and why I should feel bad for their death or failure then you failed at character writing from the start. The movie has flashy moments that are well animated with fine music but its like looking at a well dressed mannequinn. It looks very pretty but it is hollow and lifeless. Edit: I would say that the movie would benefit from being longer so we can spend more time getting attached to the characters but I think that any extra time added would hurt the movie because the writters cant write. |
