This month, Last Gasp (publishers of the esteemed Barefoot Gen localisation) released the first English translation of mangaka Keiichi Koike.

I have spoke to Last Gasp about their intentions to publish further Koike works, and they stated - "we don't currently have plans to translate Ultra Heaven, but many people are excited for that title. Hopefully sales of Heaven's Door will show that it could be a success".

Ultra Heaven is a cult favourite that many people hope to see in English someday, so I urge every Keiichi Koike fan, or those interested in checking his work out, to support Last Gasp in purchasing Heaven's Door: Extra Works.

Just when I was wondering whether I’d ever have the luxury of flipping through a physical English translation of Ultra Heaven, I came across your post.

I’ve already purchased a copy of Heaven’s Door: Extra works—a fantastic read, I must say—and I remain hopeful that Ultra Heaven is not far behind.

With the “psychedelic renaissance” being touted in the media, at least in the U.S., it seems likely that a new generation of curious explorers (in the artistic sense, and otherwise) will want to complement their curiosity with works that illustrate the experience. IMHO, Keiiche Koike, being the skilled mangaka that he is, does a fine job of representing the boundless and often times revelatory nature of psychedelia.

You can bet that I’ll be spreading the word.
