I've thought about this the past several days after talking with my friends after showing them Skeleton Knight, and personally, I feel I've come to the conclusion that this has all the edge of a goblin slayer type story but none of the grit.

You do feel a sense of danger, yet at the same time when arc shows up, you know he's going to save the day. And the thing is: you enjoy it. This shouldnt work but it does. You enjoy this God amongst men ripping and tearing through the Villains with a smile, because Arc is a fun character in of himself, and so is his supporting cast. So I guess I'm asking is if anyone else has felt the same or different?

Yes its a lot like Goblin Slayer, except Arc is really fun and charismatic. Arcs personality is what makes this show work so well. But the similarities to Goblin Slayer are definitely there. Much more lighthearted show overall.

Thing is while I do love Goblin Slayer, it's always kind of depressing. With skeleton knight you have the same kind of world, but with an mc that's huffing all the world's hopium supply as he saves the day, tanks shots that would level buildings, and of course, becomes friends with Elf girls and cat girl ninjas

I can definitely see why you’d draw the connection. I’ve been too busy thinking of Overlord every time I see Arc lol. As much as I love Goblin Slayer in either ln, manga or anime, it feels really good to watch a similar world unfold, but more light-hearted

Nope, It's Overlord 2.0 😁

I do see the similarities there, both are skeletons with overpowered gear and abilities, the world's are both are dark, and both adventure as cover for their true identies.

That said, why not both? For as much as it takes from Overlord, I'd say it takes at least some portions from Goblin Slayer. Let me explain.

Arc's friends follow him not because he's their master or lord, but because he's saved their lives, he's done mighty deeds without asking for reward (most of the time lol). The same can be said for Goblin Slayer.

So I'm not disagreeing that it is Overlord, but what I am saying that it does have at least a sliver of goblin slayer inside of it. Thoughts?

I really don’t think it’s a big deal.

Even if there are similarities, it’s the differences that make them unique.

This series has its own twist on things and is fun to watch, maybe think of it as another universe where goblin slayer is a funny show.
Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

I couldn't agree more honestly, especially with the idea that this is goblin slayer: funny edition. I don't really think this is a big deal, I really was just wondering if others had made the same sort of connection I have, and from what I've seen, some have, and some haven't, which is great honestly! I just love having the discussion over this show I've fallen in love with because it's fun.

Which is why I didn't enjoy this as much as I could have, literally what you described is I see as wrong with this show and what prevents me from liking it.

Fair enough. It’s not a deep show at all. Very simple in every way. It’s a chill show, but nothing amazing.
