Why are people expecting this to be a sequel/remake?

From a lot of reviews I read here, there's definitely some people that expect this to be a sequel or remake to the 2012 anime, or at least the two would have some connections. The word "reboot" is def appropriate for "franchise reboot", but not in a sense of relating to the previous anime.

I guess, for a casual audience, I can understand how it is easily mistaken, but if you're slightly familiar with BRS' other medias like the manga Black Rock Shooter: Innocent Soul or the PSP game Black Rock Shooter: THE GAME, among many others--all of those barely share the same plot and doesn't have Kuroi Mato either. They do have the common characters within the franchise like BRS herself, some may have Dead Master and etc, but that's it.

I always thought the thing with BRS is that the franchise just doesn't have an "official" plot and whichever medias it has are free to write whatever they want with it. Not to mention its origin with Huke's original illustration and Vocaloid song by supercell with Miku, etc etc. But this was often how BRS as a multimedia work.

Dunno what's the problem.
I never watched anything BRS prior, expected absolutely nothing and wasn't disappointed.
