| So let me start by saying I've only seen the first episode and half of the second. In the first episode when they're playing the "Yes" and "No" coin game, Yuuichi is the reader for the fourth question. The way the game works is essentially the minority dictates the outcome if the vote is not unanimous. So if he wanted a "Yes" outcome, why wouldn't he ask a question with an obvious "No" answer and just vote "Yes"? Isn't that what the first three people did except just the inverse? They asked obvious "Yes" questions and just voted "No" to control the outcome. Instead, Yuuichi foolishly asks an obvious "Yes" question and expects the outcome to be "Yes" as long as he votes "Yes" which doesn't make any sense to me. Am I missing something here? I stopped watching halfway through the second episode because the show was trying to make him seem like a genius when he clearly made a stupid mistake. I also don't care to watch the rest of this so feel free to spoil if necessary. |

| "Am i missing something?" literally bruh, complete the episode, watch at least first 3 episodes, then drop or whatever you want to do. How come you pause it in the middle, and just went to create a thread, without watching it till the end. (I am not saying anything regarding him been intelligent or not, just complete the episode, at least.) |

Like I'm more than willing to finish episode 2 and beyond if my question is answered in the remainder of the episode or even further episodes. I guess the point of this forum is to ask whether my question eventually gets answered or if it's just overlooked for the rest of the series in which case I would just not continue. I had this question at the end of episode 1 and I went into episode 2 hoping they would address it. The way episode 2 was heading, it seemed like they weren't ever going to address the fact that he asked the wrong question. So I guess I'm simply asking whether that eventually gets addressed or not. |

Generally you should watch everything before asking a question, especially when the show is a mystery. I will say this is kind of a dumb thread because you stopped watching a show when it hasn’t even explained it. It’s a mystery bruh. Also, drop if it’s boring. Even if it was an oversight or plot hole, is one small mistake enough for you to drop something? If it’s not entertaining, I get it, but that’s a little much. |

Anyway, Yuuichi thought, they all are friends, and there isn't any traitor(s) among them, until he got a wrong answer, for his (yuuichi's) question, then he realized there's a traitor, who was initially trying to put all the debt, on yutori. Now, as for your question, there were two conditions (afaik). The rule stated that, if the coin went to "yes", the game would be cleared, and if it went to "no", his debt would be halved. If he would have chose a better question (which he didn't, because of trust and what i am going to mention), it goes to "yes" and the game would have been cleared. But, they will loose in this situation, since he won't be able to meet the condition to half his debt (which is more imp than getting out of the game), unless he picks "no", and he won't be able to find out who was the traitor (another imp thing), who pushed everyone into this game. There was also a chance, that traitor will sabotage the question again as it was already happening, and end up with pushing all the debt, towards yutori only. (as i already said earlier) I ended up explaining/spoiling all of them, tho, i am anime only myself. |

Even if it was an oversight or plot hole, is one small mistake enough for you to drop something? If it’s not entertaining, I get it, but that’s a little much. I think we just have a difference when it comes to how we enjoy certain media. For me personally I don't mind spoilers to an extent and in some cases spoilers actually make the series more enjoyable for me. When it comes to the mystery genre, there can still be an overarching mystery while what's currently taking place makes sense. When the mystery factor starts causing current events in a show to not really make sense, that's when I just prefer to know some spoiler details. It wasn't that the first episode was boring, I actually found it rather entertaining. It was rather, I really didn't understand the direction they were trying to characterize the MC. Like he clearly did something not intelligent (given what was presented at the time) but the show was trying to characterize him as some super genius at the same time. To me that's not so much an oversight or plot hole but a logical inconsistency that kind of gets in the way of my enjoyment of the show. At least for me that is. So it's helpful to know whether stuff like this gets addressed and how they address it before I decide to continue. |

(as i already said earlier) I ended up explaining/spoiling all of them, tho, i am anime only myself. From my understanding, meeting the condition for "No" to halve his debt was never important because in order to clear the game he had to break the speaking rule which would double his debt and return it to the original amount anyway. So there wasn't really a way for him to clear the game AND halve his debt. The point about Yuuichi using his question to determine whether there was someone targeting Yutori Kokorogi is a valid point and definitely would explain why he didn't just ask an obvious "No" question instead. However, the show doesn't really make it clear that THIS is the reason he should be considered smart. At that point, the show makes it seem like Yuuichi's goal is to clear the game and protect Yutori Kokorogi from harboring all the debt, which he accomplishes by speaking and lying about the rule change. That's what didn't make sense to me. The way episode 2 was heading, it made it seem like Yuuichi was a genius for coming up with a lie and clearing the game. The people observing him even pointed out how they were impressed because no one had managed to clear the game after it reached the fifth question. Given what was presented at the time, the people observing Yuuichi should think he's an idiot because the people observing him think he's trying to clear the game and he could have easily done so by just asking an obvious "No" question. |

The rule doesn't mention the answer for the question should always be "Yes". A "No" question can also be asked. As long as the coin is pointing at the actual answer of the question, It will be considered a correct answer. Hence, if Yuichi asks a question with an obvious "No" answer and moves his finger towards the "Yes", It doesn't change a shit. By minority rule, It will still be a wrong answer for the question. And yes, He could've pointed to wrong answer like the person who was actually pointing to the wrong answer (Yes, There's a traitor). But it will still be minority, unless one other friend realizes what was happening and does the same. That makes the vote for correct answer a minority. Hence a correct answet. As seen in Yuichi's instruction, He has to sabotage the game if he wants to halve his debt. This, he assumed, was given to everyone except Kokorogi. So he assumed everyone there was trying to pin all the debts on to kokorogi Also, Game 1 and majority of game 2 doesn't show the true face of Yuichi. At the end of game 2 and onwards, the real deal happens, But this has been toned down a lot in anime version. My advise, read the manga. It has awesome art and crazy plot twists as the story goes on. |

At the end of game 2 and onwards, the real deal happens, But this has been toned down a lot in anime version. My advise, read the manga. It has awesome art and crazy plot twists as the story goes on. Not sure if there's a difference in our translations, but in the episode I watched they translated his card like this: If the 10 yen coin goes to "yes," you clear the game. If the 10 yen coin goes to "no," only the reader's debt will be halved. Nothing was said about the actual correctness or incorrectness of the answer to the question. Given how it was translated for me, the logical thing to do in order to clear the game would be to ask a question where the answer is obviously "no" such as "Is one week 8 days long?" Then all he has to do is vote "yes" himself and as long as two others don't vote "yes" as well, they clear the game. The probability that two other people would vote "yes" with him in this scenario is way lower than the probability of anyone voting "no" with his original "7 day week" question. That's why I felt like he wasn't smart for asking an obvious "yes" question. It's clear to me now based on spoilers that were shared with me that he was trying to accomplish more than just clear the game, so I'm fine with what he did. What I didn't like was how the people observing him started talking about how smart he must be for coming up with a lie to clear the game on the fifth question when he could have easily cleared it on the fourth. That doesn't make sense. From the perspective of the observers, his goal is to clear the game so he shouldn't appear smart to them for messing up the fourth question. |

I also don't care to watch the rest of this so feel free to spoil if necessary. The question needs to be simple enough, everyone playing should know the answer, like "There are 7 days in a week". Not sure if there's a difference in our translations, but in the episode I watched they translated his card like this: If the 10 yen coin goes to "yes," you clear the game. If the 10 yen coin goes to "no," only the reader's debt will be halved. Nothing was said about the actual correctness or incorrectness of the answer to the question. you are not wrong. The card did mention that. But that is not the actual rule of the game. ![]() The card did mention, taking the coin to Yes will win the round. But, as all here told, he trusted everyone, hence he didnt follow the instruction and went with a yes question and pointed at yes. After that round, it hit him that someone was trying to sabotage the game. Note: In the image above It should be 2 million Yen and 400 Thousand Yen. But there was a translation error iirc ![]() |

But there was a translation error iirc The image is helpful. So I'm curious what would have happened if he had gone with the "no" question in order to move the coin to "yes"? The rules on his card saying a "yes" clears the game but the overarching rule of the game saying a "correct" answer clears the game. In that case, they would have gotten an "incorrect yes" so which rule would have prevailed? To me, I feel like the later rule, (in this case the card rule was given after), would supersede the original rule. Because that was the whole basis of his bluff, that a rule on his card superseded a rule given at the beginning. But I guess we'll never know the answer for sure since that option was never explored. Idk I kinda wish the game was more thought through. I don't think this series is for me, even though I quite enjoyed the first episode. But I'm glad it's given me enough to think and discuss about even from just one episode. |

| If all players vote the same answer then that’s the one that wins, so asking something like “is 1+1 equal to 2” which obviously everybody knows would confirm his theory abt they being a traitor. His plans later definitely show him to be a genius, you don’t rly get that in the first game though since it’s so simple and he knows nothing yet. |

I guess, you are misunderstanding what was the situation was, in the first few episodes. Perhaps, because of poor translation or because you haven't completed it, yet. From my understanding, meeting the condition for "No" to halve his debt was never important because in order to clear the game he had to break the speaking rule which would double his debt and return it to the original amount anyway. So there wasn't really a way for him to clear the game AND halve his debt. It's One thing happening after another. | The MC isnt supposed to be super intelligent. He is smart but his main "power" is being a great judge of character and in conclusion being very preceptive. That is what he uses to predict characters moves and motives then use them against each other/to his gain. |

| After breaking the rule against speaking, he silenced and made the traitor think there's a huge chance of shouldering the last place penalty if they didn't choose "Yes". Of course it had to be an obvious question; Making it ambiguous could lead to mistakes. Besides, if they're going to be playing high-stakes mind games together with trust involved, it's a no-brainer to reaffirm their friendship after the treachery that happened. Reminder that this happened in so little time frame. Stated my opinion but surely you already know this since you can tell what's genius and what isn't. |

The way episode 2 was heading, it seemed like they weren't ever going to address the fact that he asked the wrong question. So I guess I'm simply asking whether that eventually gets addressed or not. I guess, you are misunderstanding what was the situation was, in the first few episodes. Perhaps, because of poor translation or because you haven't completed it, yet. From my understanding, meeting the condition for "No" to halve his debt was never important because in order to clear the game he had to break the speaking rule which would double his debt and return it to the original amount anyway. So there wasn't really a way for him to clear the game AND halve his debt. Not at the moment, the reason they had to continue the game, and yuuichi ended up getting debt, in order to help her and Clear the game further and all of the things i mentioned. It's One thing happening after another. MumenWriter said: The point about Yuuichi using his question to determine whether there was someone targeting Yutori Kokorogi is a valid point and definitely would explain why he didn't just ask an obvious "No" question instead. However, the show doesn't really make it clear that THIS is the reason he should be considered smart. As i said, in my first comment, i am not saying anything regarding how smart he is or he isn't, i am waiting for further conclusion. MumenWriter said: At that point, the show makes it seem like Yuuichi's goal is to clear the game and protect Yutori Kokorogi from harboring all the debt, which he accomplishes by speaking and lying about the rule change. That's what didn't make sense to me. The way episode 2 was heading, it made it seem like Yuuichi was a genius for coming up with a lie and clearing the game. The people observing him even pointed out how they were impressed because no one had managed to clear the game after it reached the fifth question. So, you ended up completing the fifth episode too? Great, lol. MumenWriter said: Given what was presented at the time, the people observing Yuuichi should think he's an idiot because the people observing him think he's trying to clear the game and he could have easily done so by just asking an obvious "No" question. I myself didn't took interest in yuuichi until "friendly hide and seek game", but from that point, i guess he is somewhat intelligent and capable at manipulation. I am still not considering him super intelligent, just on the basis of this first season. (i mean like, stone-paper game, that one i predicted in first few seconds, which makes me as smart as yuuichi, for coming up with such a plan? heh xD). But maybe by the end of the manga, or after next season, who knows? Well you can predict everything while sitting in your room peacefully but yuicchi devised the plan while he was stabbed several times in the hand and was bleeding heavily while being surrounded by 50 to 60 enemies "It takes more of a genius to devise a plan than to figure out the plan" - some random dude I think, you point out only what you understand or what you want to point out, while ignoring everything that is said in support. Anyway, it doesn't matter whether I am planning while sitting in my room or while fighting 40-50 people, why?? Because that plan doesn't talk about how Yuuichi is the mastermind/genius, whereas the thread is about that. The author (while he was writing this) was also sitting somewhere PEACEFULLY, not fighting with 40-50 people, and he came up with this trick, which to some people (vast minority) is "very shocking" or " never saw that coming ". Blaze_1100 said: MumenWriter said: So let me start by saying I've only seen the first episode and half of the second. I also don't care to watch the rest of this so feel free to spoil if necessary. it's like watching 10 minutes of a movie and ask "Am I mIsSinG SoMethIng?๐" give the anime a proper chance to draw you in when you reach EP 5 you will get the answers to all your questions yourself.. I've already mentioned this as part of the thread, but the reason I asked that question was because I wanted someone to reveal / spoil the answer if there was one. The way the show was progressing, it didn't seem like they were going to address it, so I would rather not continue watching until I definitively knew if and how it would be addressed and whether it would be satisfactory. A show can have an overarching mystery while the events that take place in the present still make sense. When that "mystery factor" causes the current events in the show to not make sense logically, that's when I'd personally just enjoy knowing the spoilder ahead of time. |

(As most of them acknowledge that, that part is nothing about this "*insert* thread topic again"). itsrj20 said: Again, i didn't said, he isn't capable of, i just said i didn't find it as of now from 1 season only, and i especially mentioned "maybe in future." You are ignoring all the things i mentioned and just pinpointed a single sentence, where i said something as sarcasm, i know you are not going to previous comment to confirm it, but let me make it easy for you, as you understand 10% and ignore 90%. Here is what i said "that one i predicted in first few seconds, which makes me as smart as yuuichi, for coming up with such a plan? heh xD". This is the third or 4th time when i am saying, i said it in a sarcastic way, with a question Mark in it (?) (please re read the first paragraph of previous comment again) and all the time, you are just fixated on that single sentence, like you have some grudge against it. How come you pause it in the middle, and just went to create a thread, without watching it till the end. (I am not saying anything regarding him been intelligent or not, just complete the episode, at least.) I completely agree that I could be missing something; that's why I asked. I guess, you are misunderstanding what was the situation was, in the first few episodes. Perhaps, because of poor translation or because you haven't completed it, yet.
