Too dark and depressing? Does it get better?

I'm currently on Episode 14, I binged season 1 and started S2 on a very high pace but now I've slowed down to a crawl, every episode is so dark and depressing.

There is basically nothing happening in terms of development, Akito is a prick, yeah yeah, the zodiacs inherently don't have the strength of mind to face him, I see, other than that, nothing.

Stop the sequels high-ranking stupidity.
Group franchises in Top Anime page.
Because Gintama is just "one" anime and not 5.

I can tell you that these all dark or what one might call it slow paced episodes are going to be the part of a major build up which you will see later, the season 2 keeps getting better till the end and it touches its peak

And then the season 3, I don't need to tell how great it was actually

Towards the second half of season 3 things start lightening up. It’s very cathartic, and really heartwarming. However, it’ll probably stay just as dark before you reach that.

I've watched the first two seasons and pretty much no development so far. Pretty much same things keeps happening but different characters. Hoping the third season will live up to my expectation
