I've watched 9 episodes till now and I'm wondering why did author added neko for, to make main lead jealous then why he would make her likable and give her a tragic story. I seriously hate it when author do this. I preferred Neko more I don't know why that fat ass didn't chose neko. Then what's the meaning of adding neko to the story when she doesn’t contributes shit. Neither she made main lead jealous nor main lead fell in love with her then why.
Author loves to use our sympathy, empathy or guilt to make story look good. When we felt bad for neko we got connected to the story and eventually we liked it.

Tbh I know what you mean and even I like her and feel sorry for her. There is nisekoi whose character are ditto similar thats why take grain of salt and bear. And please don't say her character contribute shit because later author sid something more shitty and she helped a lot in the situation.

Neko is there for Masamune's development further in the manga. Tho I would have appreciated her being the end girl, but the author chose the worst possible outcome.

Idk, she really had almost no screentime in anime nor in the manga, she is there just for like decoration or just an extra character, I mean, why make the mc motherless in such a simple romcom anime, right?

The manga was great tho, probably will reread it after I completely reread Nisekoi.
