Given how it's been almost 2 years since the film was announced, and given Inoue's involvement with the film's production, aren't a lot of us just on edge due to the bad rep CG gets nowadays?

If anyone knows what Inoue is like with his series, he won't allow anything to be produced without his permission and anything to be released without his nod of approval. Seeing how the movie is coming out in the next few days, isn't it safe to say that the film up to Inoue's high expectations and to his liking?

Seeing how he personally chose to use CG in order to keep things consistent and to have flowing movement, there's a chance that we might all get proven wrong, and that this might turn out to be one of the best CG anime released so far. And don't forget, nearly 2 years have gone by to produce a 2 hour film

I mean, poeple don’t care about cgi as long as it’s done well. For example, it works for something like land of the lustrous cause the artwork in the manga is very clean, shiny and not very detailed.

Judging from the trailer, the cgi in the movie is way to shiny and glossy and clean. Plus, a lot of their movements feel weightless (this works for land of the lustrous, not for slam dunk). So yeah, if the animation/ artsyle sticks to the polished look, then it will prob be critiqued.

The original creator's involvement didn't stop Alien: Covenant and Dragon Ball Resurrection F from being shit though.

Also it is a hybrid between 2D and CGI production and not fully a CGi production.

cg mostly sucks because characters movements are choppy. it puts u off
if ur gonna make a cgi, the do it with a higher framerate like western animation. (it sucks but this is just and example)

cgi should be used only for backgrounds, specific scenes like continuous 360 camets movments and such. cg is like icing on an already pretty good and tasty cake, but anime producers refuse to accept that

Absolutely agree with you. CG should only be done for backgrounds and specific scenes. They should done normal TV series to cover the remaining chapters and not this "movie".

the problem is it's inferior in literally every way to the anime that was released nearly 30 years ago. They didn't even get the original VAs back?

how the hell can they justify putting this in theaters is beyond me.

Indeed! That is what I think too! How can they even replaced all the VAs?? And not make normal TV series adaptation instead of THIS??

The old TV anime where the characters bounce the ball on the court 20 times before making it past half court? The pacing that saw Sakuragi take an entire episode to make a free throw? The animation that is kind of bad even by late 90s animation standards?

Compared to this movie's animation which is fluid and 90% as good as live action? And which is much closer to Inoue's vision since he personally supervised the development of the movie. He was actually pissed with the anime's quality which was why the Shohoku vs Sannoh match hasn't been animated until now.

A taste of the movie's animation (no major spoilers):

Literally Slam Dunk anime was a good thing it had its cool vibe and that 90s style but the pacing was horrible art style was good because there wasn't a lot of animation and movement and people are shitting on CGI even though this CGI is really good its fucking fluid movements are literally 1:1 with real life Basketball.

And also many people don't realize that Slam Dunk is about Sakuragi learning about basketball starting to love it to progress in it and someone that doesn't know can learn together with Sakuragi about the beauty of the sport called Basketball it truly is about the sport of Basketball it doesn't use sport to talk about some dumb story of friendship or other thing many sport anime do, its purely sports and having good and realistic basketball movement which CGI can offer is only a plus not a minus especially in the last match against Sannoh which has a lot of movement.

Many Anime fans are weird you just can't please them the moment they see CGI they start rioting and lifting pitchforks and saying its trash without even using their eyes.
