That should conclude the sakura arc and wow, what an amazingly handled arc that was. Maybe a bit hectic in the beginning but the way things were resolved was extremely well done

biggest thing for me was Hotaru actually reflecting how traumatic that incident in the past was. Just adds so much weight to the situation rather than having the FL be like insta-forgive and done. This is really not something you'd find in most shoujo. Another thing that was done so well was that it didn't try to romanticize Hananoi's actions just because it was for hotaru's sake lol shoujo/josei ML's get away with the wildest shit so it's nice to see it play out here

Plus Hananoi's character development as well. Turns out he never really got out of that shell when he was a kid, but now it seems like he's slowly starting to open up more. So far at least it's not an instant switch in character so I like that it's something slowly building but would have to wait to see how the future chapters hold

but geeeeeeeez the author really nailed this arc

Aaaah, this manga is such a masterpiece TvT
This is the first time I see a shoujo manga handle these topics so well. Usually the bully is easily forgiven and portrayed as simply "misunderstood", so I was happy to see Hotaru saying she'll never be able to trust Sakura again, it's very realistic and refreshing. And, omg, can we talk about Hananoi's AMAZING character development? I love how the fact he only cares about Hotaru and only needs Hotaru in his life is not seen as something good ever since the beginning, but Hananoi finally made some real progress in that regard and is treating people with more kindness - going as far as asking Keigo to be his friend! I also like how he didn't become friends with Yao, since being friends with a guy who likes your girlfriend is kinda weird. I'm glad they are in friendly terms now, tho.

Agreed that this arc was handled really well. I especially liked Hotaru telling Hananoi that if he had intended to hurt Sakura, that it would have been the end of their relationship, because she never would have been able to trust him either. Also, I liked Hotaru verbalizing that Hananoi was also hurt the day her hair was cut, albeit in a different way. I think it's easy to forget as a reader that just witnessing the act also hurt him as a child, not only that he ran away.

This arc not only showcased Hananoi's slow character growth, but I think his interactions with everyone else but Hotaru really fleshed out his character, giving richer insight into what he's really thinking. After this volume, I feel like Hananoi's character growth is truly the main story here, and it makes me grumpy about the English title change to "A Condition Called Love". It's clearly not a story just about "being in love", it's about Hananoi's deep-rooted insecurities and how it has all cumulated into a very unhealthy approach to romance from his side. The Japanese title reflects this much better imo.

There are so many messages in this manga about how to have healthy relationships and learning how to express what you feel in a productive way, but it's not shoved into your face in a preachy tone. Mad respect for the mangaka. This might end up being one of my favourites by the end.

Also I just wanna say: I love Keigo! Hope we'll keep seeing more of his character now.
