Not really a surprise. I heard it mentioned that the studio vowed to adapt the entire manga. But who knows how long that will take.

agreed. i bet this is just them turning season 2 into 2 movies like they did with season 1 and maybe a 3rd movie again based on any new chapters that are released after season 2. i don't see the anime going ahead of the manga. im pretty sure we are still waiting on chapter 64 or 65 to come out. it was suppose to come out October 28th but was delayed. he makes roughly 1 chapter every 2-6 months. and i don't see him giving the go ahead for the anime to go past the manga unless he was involved in the whole process. he seems to love his series very much. plus he did spend a lot of time supervising the creation of the video game binary star falling into darkness (i played it and loved it) so that took a lot of his personal time away from writing the manga. if love to see where this is going though. i wouldn't mind seeing season 2 come out as 2 movies in theaters. id go watch it for sure.

looks like were going to have a lot of anime original episode (filler) for season 3 since the manga is only ahead for like 3 chapters yet... regardless I'm very excited even if the put a lot of filler episode, I'm just here for there adventures.

The manga is on such a freaking slow release schedule that season 3 isn’t gonna be out for another 3-5 years. I’m a little sad that a date wasn’t confirmed, but I’ll take an announcement over nothing.

Absolutely not. The current arc in the manga is far from done as there are only 3 chapters of that arc out rn. Who knows how long the adventure will continue?

from what I've seen of what's left I don't think a movie is possible and a season seems like it'd stop in the middle of an arc. maybe ova's to finish the current layer

I'm gonna come out and say it. I hope it's not going to come out for a long time. I'd much prefer manga-adapted material 3 or 4 years from now than anime-original content. I think when show-makers go ahead of the author, in general, it turns out poorly. There are notable exceptions to that, but because I like this IP so much, I don't want to risk it personally.

idk personally I'm hoping for at least 3 more episodes worth of animated fetishes relating to children. Why explore the abyss when we can watch children die and get raped?

I think there is another possibility. The mangaka said making Made in Abyss is his side income, that's why he releases 4 chapter per year.

I think he's maybe planning to stop the manga and continue it with only the anime where he'll be completely involved.

So, let's see what happens.

the studio should adapt the created character abyss story from the game into a season or even a movie if we want filler eps. it'd be interesting to see the other characters get some screen time
