Is her main driving motive her care for the country, and the people, or is she just egotistic and wants to be the hero in the eyes of the people? I mean yes, she cares about the kingdom and Alexia, but her hatred for Shadow, and the way she just ignores Alexia's warning and information about Shadow and Shadow Garden make me start to realize she might go in a quite similar direction to that of Reiner in Attack on Titan: she wanted to become a hero, she wants to prove herself so much so, that the Kingdom and its people's safety only ranked second.

Well, can't say I have any complaint if she goes that route. Double the fun for me, I'd say. But if that's the case, I hope Shadow Garden won't just kill her off but instead do something that could make her realize who her real enemy is, even if they don't intend to.

Bonus fun if she comes to clash with her sister Alexia.

A little bit of both.
She hated Shadow for going Atomic in the middle of the capital and then hated him even more for humiliating her in front of an audience.

She definitely has a bruised ego following her defeat by Mundane Mann aka Shadow. He’s totally messing with her and she has no sense of humor about it. She really does consider him to be a terrorist so it’s not just for her pride though I think it’s a big part of it.

Iris has been accumulating a lot of stress and frustrations over the years. Not only her inability to be the hero she wanted to be but also her failure as a knight and a princess. She tries to release all her pent up feelings against Shadow but that resulted in her being in tears.

Both, but also her insecurity, Iris is the next ruler of the kingdom and yet she's suck at political stuffs, strength is all she has, so she believes that she could at least become the symbol of strength for the kingdom, but now she realizes how weak she is and you could blame shadow for that.

Yeah, honestly her role as the leader of the knights is as far as she can go on the "administrative" part of the Kingdom. Alexia on the other hand is fit to be Queen

I think she honestly believes her main driving motive is her care for the country, and the people.

But she has corrupted that notion by tying it inextricably to herself and so she's become arrogant and deluded about her importance.
We can see that is what her father is thinking of when he assigns her roles, but she's too far gone to realise what he's trying to do.

She doesn't understand the limits of her power, she can't even discern who the real enemy is, what use would she be as a ruler.

I hope she does end up causing great harm to her country, she deserves that shame and torment.

both, but her obsession beating shadow in combat becomes nuber1, i wouldn't be surprised if her own ppl turn against her at 1point cause she may cause a political incident that can cause a war if she continues her path of obsessing over shadow
