I haven't seen Hibike yet, because I didn't know the film were related to the anime series. I thought it was GL, but after seeing the movie, I don't really know if they were just friends or they liked each other, so can someone tell me? Thanks ^^
No. At least not in the anime, but actually the show comes from a light novel, which they are canon as a couple , but the adaptation of manga or anime didn’t make it canon. Soooo kinda canon. (Im talking about hibike euphonium tho, liz to aori is not couple canon but is very suggestive)
I'd say imagine for most gay people it'd be very emotional. There's no outright kissing, but I'd say people saying it's obviously just friendship on both sides have terrible social skills and EQ. Imo it's heavily implied and intended to be about a romantic relationship (at least on one girls side)
I see this more as a cute tale of friendship, definitely reminded me of my own highschool companions at my teenage years. But if you're looking for a girl's love anime film similar to Liz And The Blue Bird, would recommend Asagao to Kase-san.

Most of girls and boys relationships are based in less interactions than the girls of the film, and they still be shipped. I don't think there's need to be a kiss to see they like each other. Despite it, I think they have a toxic relationship, because they couldn't understand their true feelings. And yes, one of them seems to be more interested romantically in the relationship than the other, but if they were girl - boy I'm sure everyone could agree in the fact that they liked each other
No its not, it aint even bait. Need to accept that being close friends does not mean a potential romance. Plus, the film is literally about letting go of you're connections and carving your own story from what I remember

Yea is a pretty messy, kinda confusing, but i dont think they are a couple , maybe something more one sided?
Their relationship is best described as one of codependency.
What they love isn't each other, but rather what they can gain from one another, i'll explain in the spoiler below for those who've watched the movie.
Nozomi struggles with low self-worth and her way of trying to compensate for this through her excessive drive to be seen and praised by the people around her. In one particular scene towards the end of the movie, Nozomi confess to Mizore how she envies her musical talent, in the same scene Nozomi also says how she dislikes being "an ordinary girl". For Nozomi, the only way to be seen as valuable in the world is through being special, something she torments herself for not being.
She seeks salvation through being Mizore's only close friend to make herself feel special, being the hero in somebody else's life is an easy way for her to deal with her feelings of inadequacy.
Throughout the movie, you can see how Nozomi repeatedly takes advantage of the situation. Consciously aware of Mizore's special attachment towards her or not, she continues to engineer social situations where she leaves her behind, only to sweep back in as a hero and be her best friend again. Creating a feedback loop where Nozomi is in control and able to continue feeling like that special person she wants be.
Mizore on the other hand, who also battles with low self-worth is different from Nozomi in that she is quiet and socially withdrawn. Similarly, her way of dealing with feelings of inadequacy is through her relationship with Nozomi who to her is a savior, an idol, someone who doesn't have the personality traits that haunts her. As long as Mizore always has Nozomi to compensate for her faults and to be her soul friend, she feels whole and doesn't need anyone else.
Mizore never really try to improve her situation, she never asks herself what it is she wants in life, imagining a life in which Nozomi isn't part of is impossible, Nozomi in this context is not just an idealised hero, but an escape, a conveniant excuse to not have to face reality and discover herself.
It isn't until the end, that our two protagonists begin to realise the destructive nature of their relationship and take steps towards addressing it into a healthier one, a relationship where they don't feed of each other.
During the events of the movie, they're anything but lovers. But with their relationship restored into a healthier one, could they be good friends? Absolutely. Could they become lovers later on? Unlikely, but who knows.
It's one-sided. Or is it? There's a lot going on in the film, subtle and sweet!
At the very end, there's a pledge of true love. Nothing about the ending isn't yuri, they've both grown up a LOT emotionally and that ship has canon!
Nope. Despite all of the yuri bait, no ship sails.
After that ending? That's pure yuri, they're going to make it together! đź’– It's like the huge explosion of yuri at the end of a fireworks show.
That ship will sail for their lifetime.
