So, I haven't watched Beastars, but it's one of those slice of life anime that doesn't look that slice of lifey. On top of that, it manages to keep its tag despite MAL making the definition stricter. (Here's a stack that has the anime that lost their SoL tag.) So, I'm curious if a lot of people think Beastars is a slice of life anime.

By MAL's definition, it isn't but it certainly has a lot of sol elements. But it very much has a narrative, plot, and a message it is trying to preach to the audience so it's not your standard sol show. It's still great tho.

i think it's closer to a drama.

but there are definitely SoL elements when they just hang around and explore the world without really moving the plot foward.

the SoL elements definitely come from the high school setting of the show

but Beastars is definitely a lot closer to drama, mystery rather than SoL

acting like sol don't usaully have a plot and narrative for me it seems to the be the shows with the plot and narrative already laid out and planned lol

yeah but just cause it is doesn't mean it mainly that it just mean it fits into that category while focusing on the drama or another genre

Yeah, I would say it is both SOL and Drama. It is more Drama than SOL though.

The story follows the lives of the characters and their actions through their lives. It even lets the audience see into the mind of the character and why they are doing stuff, so I guess that is what slice of life is.

With Beastars there too much drama going for it to be a slice of life. Even with them being animals it doesn't depict an every day normal life.
