Seeing "final chapter" was a shock for me since I didn't know chapter 53 was the penultimate chapter.

These characters feel like real people with real struggles especially for those with introverted tendencies. I didn't want to say goodbye just yet.
But it's better than dragging it on and running the wheels off the thing.

It was wonderful to see Makio and Asa's relationship grow and change over the course of 54 chapters.
Makio found she was capable of loving Asa (though she'd be hard pressed to admit it haha) and Asa was able to move forward, singing and writing.
Now neither of them are lonely.

Huge thanks to Hi Wa Mata Noboru for picking up this series and scanlating it to the end!
A good author leaves the audience enough material to be satisfied with, yet yearning for more.

A perfect way to give their story an ending, embracing their love for each other meanwhile still going forward with the baggage of the past and the uncertainty of the furute.
If Makio telling Asa that she can stay as long as she wants wasn't enough, her poem destroyed me

Foua the ending was sooo rewarding, it made emotional I loved it. It ties the series so well, and I'm so glad for those scenes, Makio on the couch and the poem. I really like how she had to both use a mean of communication that comes naturally to her (writing), and other that would normally bu out of question for her (crying and be emotionally open).
Overall really, really good read

What a disappointing mess of lost potential. 3/10.

I'm a fan of this mangaka for her unique realistic style, but this was far from her best quality work, and incredibly overrated for receiving a live-action and now anime adaptation.
It's another handful of her failed lackluster badly flawed execution of stories.
... Hibari no Asa (Hibari's Morning) still remains her very best work. What a shame. I expected this to be great.

I'll try to breakdown most of it later.

Makio finally admitting that she does love Asa, even in her roundabout way, was a really good way to end this manga. That final poem was also pretty moving.

All in all, I really enjoyed how restrained this manga feels. No melodramatic meltdowns, no endless pages of crying people hugging each other. When it does show emotion, it feels impactful. Although, the laidback and detached nature of the characters also makes a bit hard for me to get invested in them. It's a fine line to thread.

I enjoyed the philosophical nature of this and the way it leaves a lot of the questions it poses open-ended. No answers to be found here, just characters that are struggling to answer questions everyone struggles with.
