Chapter 1: Rukia arrives.

Page 1
The morning breeze in the mountains was warm, It was a perfect day for hunting. Shuuhei was standing in the garden, behind his and his sister Tatsukis house.”Tatsuki were are you?, Shuuhei shouted. “Tasukiii?” He waited a minute then she showed up by the kitchen window. “Why are you screaming? What do you want Shuuhei?”. He turned around and looked at her. His sister was attractive. She wasn’t beautifull, but she was innocent cute. But the fact still remaind that she was only fourteen years old. Way too young for a girl to be alone at home for more than a week. “I found a deer trace earlier this morning. I’m thinking of following the trace, but then you would be alone for a couple of days. Are you gonna be okey by yourself?” Although what he really was worried about, was somthing else. His sister had a bad habit of forgetting things. Once she almost burnt down the house when she was cooking. She had foregotten to turn out the fire under the pot. Now she said, “I’m going to be alright, brother. You just be carefull and don’t forget too bring food.” I guess it would be alright too leave her. It had been three years since the incident. “Alright, then i’m going in an hour”. She was on her way too turn around then she looked at him and said, “there’s been a rumor in the vilage that Tsukiyama and Tamafune are going too start a war soon. A trade man said that his son had been taken away from him, to be forced in the army. Do you think that they will come here too?” She sounded worried. “No. It’s not that they don’t want to come, but they can’t. They don’t have any athoryty here. Goyata is in the suth part of Hirishima, and on the other side of the mountain too. If they would come here, they’d have too find the way through the woods and mountains.”He stood there and looked at the sky. He wanted too make sure that there wuldn’t be any rain today. “Well i’m going to stop by at Asanos house when i’m done hunting. She wanted me too fix something for her. See you in two or three days. Bye.” Tatsuki said goodbye, and he fetched his bow and arrows. He went deep inside the forest, following the traces of the deer. The woods were deep and you could easiley get lost in these woods if you didn’t know your way around it. Shuuhei was the only one under 30 years that could go in the mountains for days and still find the way back. He had been walking for about fifteen minutes when he saw a deer trace that must have been put there recently. He followed the trace without making any sounds and there on the other side of the old Oak tree. The deer was quietly eating grass and didn’t notice Shuuhei at all. Shuuhei desided that he woulld quietly sneak up closer so that he could get a better shot at the deer. He was about too sneak up on the deer when it suddenly looked right at him. The deer was so supriesd that it walked into a tree, while it was going too run away. Then he heard the sound of horsehoofs coming his way at a very quick pace. He looked on his right side, and saw a horse coming right at him. The rider was lying down on the horse back. When the horse saw Shuuhei she stopped right in front of him. Shuuhei Looked at the horse, and was stunned by the site. The horse was coverd in blood. He looked at the rider and saw that it was a woman, who also was coverd in blood. He could hear her breathe so she was still alive.

Page 2
He grabed the reins, and led the horse through the woods. He wasn’t sure what too do, but she needed treatment for her wounds. She looked young, maybe she was around his age. And she was beautifull. She had gold brown hair, and she was dressed in a dark blue silk shirt, and with a pale blue skirt. She looked like she came from a rich family. He wondered what she was doing injured, in a forest like this. Then suddenly he heard the sound of a branch being stept on. He looked around but coulden’t see anyone there. I’t must be his imaginaton. He sat up behind the girl, and urged the horse forward. They were near the house, so it only took a few minutes riding for them too reach the stable. He sat down and caried the girl too the house. When he opened the door, his sister was there with a knife in her hand. “Brother! What are you doing here? I thought you were out hunting.” She looked relived, she had probably tought it was a theif or something. “Help me take care of this one first”, he said. It was then Tatsuki looked at the girl. She gave him a suspicious look, then she said. “Put her on my bed, I’m going too get some bandages for her.” While his sister was fetching bandages, he put her on the bed and started too undress her. He only took of the clothes near the wound. She had ben stabbed in the stomach. The wound wasen’t deep, but if they didn’t treat her wound soon, she could die from the loss of blood. He sat himeself down on the chair beside the bed. Then he gently put his hand on the wound. She moved a little, when his hand touched her skin. Then suddnely his hand shined light white, and the wound started too heal. He was so shocked at the scean, that he fell of the chair. “What was that? What the hell happend!!?” he blurted out. He stood up again when he heard someone walking up the stairs. Tastuki opend the door, and said,”I brought the bandages, and some water to clean the wound with”. She put the stuff on the table in the room. He didn’t know how too explain, so he just said, “ No need for the bandages. It wasn’t her blood. There’s no wound.” He grabed the water and a towle, then he started too wash of all the blood. “There’s a horse in the stables, that belongs too her. Can you wash of the blood, and take care of her?” he suddenly said. Fine she said, but she told him that he better explain evrything after that. Tatsuki left the room, and he sat down again. He didn’t know what had happend whit the wound, but he couldn’t deny what he had seen either. Was it magic maybe? But he can’t do any magic! He had only heard of magic in the stories, and he didn’t belive in magic to begin with. But then what was that?. He only had questions, and no answers. “Hnn”. He turned his head towards the girl. The girl was looking at him, with sleepy eyes. “Where am I?, she asked. “Who are you?”. She began too sit up, but he stoped her. “You should lay down some more. My name is Shuuhei, and i found you on your horse in the forest. I may be a stranger, but I am not going too hurt you”, he said. She looked down on her stomach, and gave of a shocked sound. “What happend too my wound!? How long have i been unconcius?”. Her voice was nice too listen too. He looked at her, but didn’t know what too answer. He didn’t have a choice so he told her, about the light and how her wound had healed. She didn’t look surprised, actually she looked glad, and hopefull. “Have you ever used this power before?” He looked at her. She sounded like she had seen this power before. He answerd her question. “No, never. Do you know what it is?” She smiled and said, “Yes the one you have is very rare. Your healing ability is called Amethic. I have an ability too. Mine is called Malac. I can control the wind”. She frowned her eyebrows and continued. “But I have a little hard time controling my ability, so I only use it when it’s necessary. Normal people don’t have this ability.” She was quiet for a second the she contiued to talk. “I find it strange that you have it.

Page 3
So far only people who are born blessed by the five god beasts have abilitys.”. He thought about it for a moment. It sounded almost like a fairytale he thought. He then said, “then are you born blessed by the god beasts too?. She looked at him with a serious face and said, “yes I am. But can you keep it a secret please? I don’t want people too know that”. He promised her that he would keep it a secret. “But then how come I have the ability too heal?. Does that mean that I was blessed at birth?”. She thought for a while. “Well I think so. That means that you are made to make some kind of difrence in this country or some other place in the world.”, she replied. “Who are your parents”?, she then suddenly asked. Shuuhei didn´t understand why she asked that kind of question but he answerd her anyway. “My dad died before I was born and I don´t know anything about him. And my mother has been dead for six years now but she was just an ordinary village lady”.He looked at her. “Why do you ask?”. She stayed queit, and didn’t say anything for some time. Then she answerd, “well it´s more likely that a person with a high social status can change the world or a country for that matter. I was just wondering”. They both didn´t say anymore and just sat there. Then someone knocked on the bedroom door. Shuuhei got up from his chair too open the door. Tatsuki was standing there with a worried look. “Brother, I’m done taking care of the horse”. Tatsuki looked at the bed and saw that the girl was awake. “Oh, so she woked up”, she said.”Did she tell you who she is?”. She looked from him, to her. The girl answerd first. “No, I haven’t introduced myself yet. My name is Rukia. I’ve just fleed from the Tsukiyama´s. There is going too be a war soon, and my family are on the run. We were attacked, on the way through the mountains. I seperated from them when I fainted”. Shuuhei could tell that she was worried just by listening to her voice. Since he didn´t like the idea of her starting to cry he spoke without thinking. “If you want too, I could help you look for them. The mountain woods are big, but I know evry corner of it”, he suggested. Rukia thought about it. “No,” she then said. “I think i’m going too stay still for a little while. I haven’t been able too rest for about a month. I’v been on the move for a long time. She looked at both of them and asked, “is there anywere I can stay for a couple of weeks?” Shuuhei tought about it. It took about five hours to the village even by horse. It would be dark alredy by the time she ariverd there. Shuuhei got an idea. “We live a bit away from the village. If you were too leave by horse now it would be too dark outside alredy”. Shuuhei looked at his sister, and then at Rukia. He desided to make a porposal that would both help her situation and reduce his worries about her. “Well if Tatsuki don’t have anything against it, you are welcome too stay here.”Rukia looked like she didn´t know what too answer too that generous offer. Tatsuki on the other hand looked at Rukia, then at Shuuhei. She frowned her eyebrows like she didn´t like the idea of a stranger in the house. But then she gave of a smile. “Sure you can stay. You can sleep in the guest room. Well I got too go and make dinner. Tatsuki looked directly at Shuuhei. “Brother, you can show her around the house right?.” Then she walked out of the room. Shuuhei stared at the door for a while. He tough that Tatsuki had acted a little too cooperated. He looked at Rukia again. Rukia who had gone back too normal looked at Shuuhei too. “Is it really okey that I stay?” Rukia asked. Rukia both looked, and sounded doubtfull. Shuuhei laughed. He knew what she was worried about. Tatsuki had a habit of sounding mad, or irritated when she spoke. Rukia who didn´t understand what he was lauging at just looked at him like she was confused. “It’s okey”, Shuuhei said. “She’s not mad or anything. She’s just bad at talking to people.

Page 4
Rukia asked,“why?” Shuuhei sounded distressed when he answerd her question. “We have always lived here, and it’s not that close to the villlage so she dosen´t have much freinds.” He was playing with a stone, while talking. Rukia who didn´t know what too answer too that statement just answerd with a sound of sympathy. Shuuhei who tought that the mood was getting tense said, “come on, I will show you around the house.” He reached out his hand, to help her up. “Tank you”, she said. Rukia put her hand in his, and he pulled her up gently. They continued to talk, while he guided her around. Rukia who had tought about their conversation earlier just thought about something. She hesitated but decided too ask anyway. “If you live that far from the village are you without frends too?”. Shuuhei gave her a look, then gave of a bright smile. “I don’t particulary spend much time with humans. I like animals more.” Shuuhei had always had a strong liking for animals. “I have this ability too understand the nature of animals. I find them exiting and intresting too listen too. Don´t tell anyone but I can communicate with animals like I do with humans. I don´t know if I was born with that ability or not but I have always been able too talk to them. He looked at Rukia too see if she believed him or not. He saw that his statement hade left her with some kind of impression, beacuse she looked astonished. Rukia looked at him with those wonderfull blue eyes. “That’s amazing.” She didn´t say anymore. Rukia looked around in the hallway. Her eyes stopped at a photograhp on the wall. She pointed at the photograhp and asked, “who´s that?”. Shuuhei looked at what she pointed at, and saw the photo of their mother. He smiled a little sad and said, “that’s our mother, when she was twenty”. Rukia gave him another look. “She was beautiful”. They walked on, and they came too the kitchen. Tatsuki was setting the table. When she noticed them she said, “dinner is almost ready. You guys can sit down.”. Rukia and shuuhei sat down at the dinner table. Shuuhei sat himself at the corner of the four people table, and Rukia sat herself across him. Tatsuki sat the pot with the potatos on the table, following with the vegetables. “The meat is done in a minute or two”, she said while she sat herself beside Shuuhei. Rukia looked at the food. “It smells, and looks delicious. You must be a good cook.” Tatsuki blushed. “It´s not that praise worthy. Shuuhei is a much better cook than me.” Rukia who looked really suprised, looked at Shuuhei. She kept looking at him for a while. Then she said, “well he sure dosen´t look like he can cook.” Shuuhei took that like critisism. “You shoulden´t judge people by their looks. Cooking is an important survival skill. I woulden´t go out hunting for days if I coulden´t cook my own food. What if I got lost? How would I survive without being capable of using my surroundings for food supplies?. Besides I was the one who cooked our food before Tatsuki took over that jobb.” Rukia looked at shuuhei with a serious face. “Then”, she said “I wont make that mistake again.” Tatsuki had gotten out of her chair while they were talking. She put the meat on the table, and sat down again. “Time to eat”, she said. Shuuhei took the potato pot and started to put potato´s on his plate. He then took vegatables on half his plate. To that he had a big piece of meat. Rukia looked on his plate and saw that he didn´t have any sauce at all. “ She passed the sauce to him. “here, have some sauce”. Shuuhei didn´t touch the sauce and passed it to Tatsuki. “I don´t eat sauce”, he said when he saw Rukias asking face. Rukia looked at Shuuhei with face that looked like they didn´t understand why someone woulden´t want sauce on their potatos or meat. Since she was curious she asked, “Why not? Isn´t the food to dry to eat whitout the sauce?”. Shuuhei had food in his mouth, so he had to swallow before he could answer. “Sauce is just unnecessary fat for men. At least that´s my opinion.

Page 5
Since I´m a swordsman I need to stay in shape. Otherwise I would have to train even more”. Rukia had listen to him talkin now she looked suprised. “Your a sworsman? But I thoght you were a farmer”. Rikia sounded rather suprised when she said that. Shuuhei who understood why she was suprised said, “Yeah we are farmers, but I learnd swordsmanship from a man that used to live in the village. It was hard in the begining but then I started to like it more and more as the time went by. He tought me how to stay in shape and how I should do regular training. I was really young when I started so I´ve goten good enough to protect Tatsuki at least”. Shuuhei started too eat again. Tatsuki who had been very quiet the whole time looked at rukia. “How old are you?”, she wonderd. Rukia smiled at the shy and quiet Tatsuki. “I´m seventeen years old”, Rukia answerd. “Even if I´ve only been seventeen for about a week”. Tatsuki looked at Shuuhei with eager eyes. “She´s your age then. Even though not exactly, since you turn eighteen three months from now”. Shuuhei only nodded his head at that statement. He had been thinking about Asano while they were talking. “I think I´ll head in too the village tomorrow,” he suddenly said. “You are?” Tatsuki asked. “Yeah. Asano asked me to remember? She wanted me to fix something. Well I might as well do it right away then. I had originally planned to go there after I went hunting but since the circumstances have changed I´ll go see her tomorrow instead”. Shuuhei figured that the sooner he did it the better. He didn´t have too tell Tatsuki that what Asano had asked of him was something else. Tatsuki didn´t know that there were people who were looking for Asano. Asano is an aristocrats daughter but, when she was 21 years old she ran away with her lover. Her father who is a stict man, had planned to marry her of to some spoild rich kid, but Asano refused and desided that she would never be happy if she stayed there. They ran away from her father and finally setteld down here in Tonmiyo village. She later became friends with our mother Asami. Asanos father sent out people too look for her, and they are still looking. Becuase she never married the spoiled rich kid, the kids father ruined Asanos fathers reputation. He still holds a grudge against her so he wants too find her and make her pay for what she has done. “.....you then?”. Shuuhei looked up when someone interrupedt his toughts. Tatsuki and Rukia both looked directly at him. Shuuhei who feelt ashamed for not listening too them said, “sorry I didn´t hear you. Did you guys say something?”. Tasuki rolled her eyes. “I said, can´t Rukia come with you tomorrow?” Shuuhei didn´t know what she was talking about. His confusion must have shown on his face becuase Tatsuki continiued. “While you were of in your own little world”, Rukia laughed a bit quiet at Tatsukis comment, “Rukia and I talked about the village. Then we concluded that we would ask you if she could go with you there tomorrow”. Shuuhei thought about it. He thought it was a good idea, becuase then he could spend a little time with her. For some reason he had tought a lot about her since she came here. He didn´t know if it was becuase of curiosity or something else. Ether way, she had too visit the village sometime anyway. She coulden´t just sitt here in the house for a couple of weeks. That would bore the heck out of her. Shuuhei realized that he was keeping quiet again. “Well I don`t have anything against it. She´s more than welcome to come with me tomorrow”. Tatsuki and Rukia looked pleased, when he said that. For some reason that made him feel proud of himself. Why dose that make him feel proud?. Just becuase his sister and a girl he just met are happy becuase of something like this, he shoulden´t feel like he did something incredible. He must be confused, becuase of all the things that have happend today.

Page 6
Rukia and Tatsuki talked about Rukias horse while finishing their dinner. “Her name is Nemu”, Rukia told them. “I got her as a birthday gift when I turned 13. She was the first horse I myself owned”, she said with a happy tone. Tatsuki asked Rukia if she wanted to see her’s and Shuuhei’s horse after dinner. Rukia looked thrilled and said she’d love to see them. “While your at it can you give them some hay?, Shuuhei asked them. “Yeah sure, Tatsuki answerd. Shuuhei took his plate to the sink and washed it of. It’s my turn to wash the dishes today right?. Leave your plates here when you guys are finished eating. I need to get ready for tomorrow”. When Shuuhei went upstairs he stoped to look at the photograph mof his mother. He had allways tought that his mother was a beautiful person. He could still remmember the sound of her laugh, feel of her touch and the way her cooking tasted in his mouth. He had loved his family as long as he could remember. Shuuhei remember the time when she died like it was yesterday. Their mother had died from a lung desiese that she had been fighting against since she was 8 years old. She had been a fragile person but she had had a strong will so she managed to live until she was 35 years old. It had been a challenge for her to give birht to me it seemed. According to the villagers it was a miracle that she survived it. Thank god that she didn’t have go trgough the same thing twice. Tatsuki was not my mothers real child. Tatsuki was a child that my mother had found in the forest on day. She was barely one year old at that time so she dosen’t remember any of it. Not that it acually mattered to him. Tatsuki was his sister even if they didn’t share any blood relations. He tended to worry about Tatsuki quite often now days. She didn’t have any problems to communicate with people that she liked or had meet sometimes before, but she was hopeless with new people if they didn’t take the first step in a conversation. It was a bit early to think about it but he wonderd what kind of man she would end up with in a few years. Maybe it was about time that she became better at communicating with people so that she could acually talk to the person that she would eventually fall in love with. He had to think of something later. He went to his room and got ready for tomorrow. He made a list for things that he needed to buy home and he’s going to ask Tatsuki for a list too. Shuuhei and Tatsuki had never had any problems with money. Their mother had known that she wouldn’t live for very long so she had put away savings since she became pregnant with me. Not that he knew where his mother got that much money from to begin with, but it was a small fortune so they would get by for at least another 4-5 years. Maybe he should by something nice for Tatsuki. She was going to turn fifteen soon so I bet she would like some new clothes or maybe a piece of jewelry to wear. What other sstuff did a teenage girl need?. Maybe he could ask Rukia later. With that thought in mind he went down to wash the dishes. When he was washing the last plate he heard Tatsuki and Rukis walking in to the kitchen.
